My current rig is a

1800xp+ (136*11.5)
512 pc133 cas 3 ram

k7t turbo

23.11
Geforce 2 mx 32mb (@133mhz memory, not 166)
I got 1951 in 3dmarks 🙁

Is this too low? I think it is . Most ppl are getting around 3000 with a similar rig

Is my low 3d performance the fault of my extremmly crappy video card ?

P.S I am using winxp

I think it depends on the colcour depths the 3Dmark2002. You probably run at 32bit colcour depths instead of 16 bits. The reason is :
1.My PIII-550 with TNT2 M64 scored around 550-600 points under 32bit depth and 1050 points under 16 bit depths.
2.My PIV-1700MHZ(Celeron) with TNT2 M64 scored around 700-750 under 32bit depths, and I didn't run under 16 bits because it's not necessary.

From my little experience, it's clear video card is the key element to boost 3Dmark2002 scores.

I got 1158 points with a PCI version of your card and a Celeron 500.
I'd say your video card is extremely limiting for you.

Make a $137 upgrade (GF4 Ti4200) and make good use of your CPU.

yeah
but I dont have a job yet
so i will get a ti4200 when is less than a hundred

p.s
I updated to the 29.42 and via's latest agp driver and now I am getting
2192
🙂

Well you are using PC133 ram which is kind of hurting your score. But its mainly the video card. Make sure FSAA is turned off all the way. Also the GF2MX doesnt do to well in high resolutions not to mention 32bit color. Your next upgrade needs to be a GF3 Ti200 or better card which can be had for $85-$95 range(used). I score 6113 at default settings with my 1.4 Athlon(not overclocked),256mb PC2100,Shuttle AK31 and a Gainward GF3 Ti200(not overclocked).

So your video card is whats killing you. If you got/get the extra dough go DDR ram and a GF3Ti200 or better card. Its according to how much gaming you do to justife a GF4. If you do mild gaming a GF3 Ti200 will run anything you throw at it for some time not to mention it can be had for under $100 on the forums.

I agree that you should go with a new video card. I saw a HUGE jump in speed when I went from a Geforce 2MX to a Geforce4 4400. My latest 3dmark got me to 8100 marks with a 1.33Ghz thunderbird @ 1.4 Ghz and 256 pc133 SDRAM. I maybe getting a mobo upgrade so I can get DDR and hopefully it will improve my performance.

Edit: with my Geforce 2MX, I only got up to 2500 marks with my system.
