Hopefully Russia will respond in kind.

The situation in Georgia has already shown they're not afraid of a skirmish to keep their sphere of influence intact.

....hopefully? Really? You hope that Russia puts up missiles pointed at America or an American missile silo, in an obvious attempt to restart a decades-dead arms race?

I mean, you can disagree with the US's decision to put up missiles there, but why would you hope for a Russian retaliation?

That American flag in your avatar has got to be the biggest facade on the planet.

I would say that the Russian situation in Georgia has made the Bush missle shield system a foregone conclusion at this point. Perhaps a democratic President could have been talked into modifying it, but not now.

Wait, who are you accusing of restarting the arms race? There is only one country that is reaching halfway around the world to install a "missile defense" system on the doorstep of their cold war rival. Weren't you glad when the US responded fiercely to the Russian's attempt at doing the same during the Cuban missile crisis, or are you as clueless as the current White House press secretary?

Iran isn't a threat at all. They would be obliterated by the military of any major world power, and they fully know it. Our leaders just continue repeating the same lie, rattling the same sabre, to convince people they need protection from a non-existent threat.

What. Are. You. Talking. About?

You said, as I already quoted, "Hopefully Russia will respond in kind"

The second line of my response, which I guess you didn't read since you left it out of the quote, takes care of this response. The retaliation to your post, was in the post you are quoting. Try again?

well, at least you can't say we forgot Poland.

Every time I hear the country mentioned that sound bite pops in my head immediately. I guess it will for the rest of my life.

If you were Poland and you just watched Russia roll over Georgia wouldn't you want anything and everything you can to defend yourself?

A concern of Russia for a long time is this missile shield, supposedly to counter small numbers of weapons fired from fantasy enemies who certainly don't actually have their buttons on any missiles (besides maybe North Korea, but it makes no logical sense for it to sign its death warrant anyway).

Russia didn't want the shield outside its doorstep. US said no worries it's not about you, you don't need to worry about it. Officially Russia was uneasy though.

Now we have the Georgian development and it's in some part motivated by Russia not wanting Georgia in NATO right next door. Well now we have Poland agreeing to the shield and the US more ready to meet its demands. Why would it be doing this now? If it's about Al Queda and other make believe missile-shooters, why slap Russia with this? As I see it, Russia's initial concerns were not without merit.

I thought the shield was only about AQ, though. That's how the Bush admin tried to placate Russia. Are they saying now that maybe that wasn't quite accurate? Yep!

Obama will solve this problem.

NATO already existed on Russia's western flank fro the Warsaw pact.

It may have been the concern for her underbelley - or just a way for Putin to flex his muscle.

This is one more step toward World War 3, as Russia has said it would target it's tactical nuclear weapons on Poland if it goes ahead with installing ABMs. This goes to show that the missile defense shield is not about Iran, but about engaging Russia.

http://news.sky.com/skynews/Ho...Article/20082851301432

General Yuri Baluyevsky said there were no plans "to attack anyone" but reasserted Russia's right to defend itself.

"To defend the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Russia and its allies, military forces will be used, including preventively, including with the use of nuclear weapons," Gen Baluyevsky said.

I doubt they are getting enough quantity of material to try and deflect a full scale attack, but given recent soviet incursions wouldn't you want the US to be actively propping you up, particularly via signed documents.

Yeah that was pretty dispicable, but I gaurantee you he didn't even flinch when he wrote it.

The liberal left doesn't believe in good or evil. Jpeyton is their poster child on this forum. They believe anything the US does should be countered by some other nation, regardless of their values.

Just means in case there is a nuclear war, Poland is on list of Russian targets now. Not a big deal really, I live next to Moffet Field/NASA Ames which I've been told is also on the list. Doesn't really impact my day to day life one bit.

Will you please shut the fuck up with your stupid and idiotic generalizations, you worthless piece of trash. Just shut the fuck up, douchbag.

And please, you mental midget, please . . . learn to spell "despicable." Your misspelling of "guarantee" is probably just a lazy-assed typo, but this is not the first or second time you've misspelled the relatively easy word "despicable."
