That page is absolutely retarded.

Hardware Issues/Driver Support:
Every OS from MS has higher system requirements. If MS took the opposite route and became ultra feature-conservative everyone would complain that the OS had no new features. The same is true for drivers, if the company that made your hardware isn't willing to put out Vista drivers then it's their fault. And in a number of cases the XP driver works fine anyway.

New-OS Problems:
Every new piece of software will have problems for some people, it's unavoidable because no matter how much QA a person does there will always be someone out there with an unpredictable setup or amount of stupidity.

Resource requirements:
All the wiki mentions here is Aero and the bigger disk space needed for Vista. If you don't like Aero or if it takes too much CPU or power for your liking just disable it, it's not forced upon you. And no one will really notice ~6G of disk space unless they're one of the weirdos with too much free time using things like nLite to trim Windows down as much as possible for no good reasons.

Dual-Boot Users:
Besides the fact that dual-booting sucks in the first place it's still possible and works just as well from what I hear.

Software Compatibility:
Again, updated software always has the potential to break things. Hell XP SP2 broke things for people too so it's not like you can avoid it by just sticking your head in the sand and never upgrading to Vista.

Edition Confusion:
This does kind of suck but most users will just whatever the OEM gives them with their machine, the only people who really need to care are enthusiasts buying licenses on their own and IT people.

Digital Rights Management:
There's no way around this and the DRM doesn't affect you if you're not watching protected content. So just don't watch any protected content and you'll never invoke the DRM code paths.
 
One thing I didn't like with vista is that it felt sluggish. Even on high end hardware.
I wish MS would make an OS that was just the OS.
I just want something to run the hardware I have and not come with any addons.
Something like a windows version of linux, where I can choose whats part of the OS .

I installed windows 2000 on a pc yesterday and one of the things that I noticed right away was how fast it did everything.
If I clicked a window, it was instantly there, no hesitation.
If I transferred a file it copied immediately.
Browsing, etc was speedy.
I also noticed that the os was only using 58MB of memory.

Is vista really doing that much more then win2k that it has to use all those resources ?
The pc was very high end,but that same pc with vista just felt slower.

The animated windows, and aero are nice in vista but the response times in win2k just seemed like I could get more done.

I think the article is basically FUD. Most comments in there you could make about any OS release. Repalce the word Vista with XP and XP with Windows 2000 and it's just like the crap that sprouted up with XP was released.
 
won't fit on a dvd? does vista clean image really not compress down to 1 dvd? i ghost xp o/s clean installs and they compress quite well. i'd assume atleast 50% compression....

as for resources, thats a given for a new o/s with more features built for future computers. we are down to 60-70 dollars for 2gb ram these days. by the time vista is used by majority standard baseline pc's will have more than enough power. of course if your system is marginal now theres no good reason to upgrade just yet. game performance does suffer at this moment.
 
The anti-Vista sentiments on the web are incredible, and incredibly inaccurate. Nothinman broke it down well, and similarly to how I've done in the past on other forums. It's all FUD, and it's all things that were issues with XP. People seem to have incredibly short memory spans, and treat XP like it was a flawless OS. When XP came out people cried and screamed that it sucked, was unstable, and they'd rather stick to their perfect, stable 98. Over the years everyone switched, and now that Vista's out, XP is everyone's perfect, stable 98.

Vista works great. I've had nearly no problems with it, and the new functions are fantastic. I dual-boot with XP fine (well, I did the two times I've done it since installing Vista in February), software compatibility's been nearly perfect, driver support came around quickly enough, and the DRM issues don't affect me or any of the people complaining because if they're smart enough to know about DRM, they're smart enough to avoid it. And for those people who aren't smart enough to know about DRM, they're exactly the suckers already buying DRMed music and other restrictive technologies and doing everything exactly as they're told by the manufacturer, and therefore aren't experiencing the issues either. It's only people who simultaneously want to make pirated copies of things yet are computer illiterate that will be affected. The rest of us are just fine.

Vista's great people. Embrace it, because in a couple of years everyone will have it, and then people will be clinging to it for dear life when Vienna hits shelves.
 
Wondering what your using for a video card.
I have a 7600Gt that while the nvidia drivers work in vista, they corrupt the screen everytime vista changes the desktop to ask me to allow something.
 
My x64 vista install is running great...i play games, do everything i did in 32 bit vista and 32 bit xp pro...
 
I don't run vista for 1 reason. After I installed it, my games became next to unplayable. The performance loss was horrid. I'll stick with the linux and xp combo.

You would think my system would be beafy enough.

Vista basic.... Nothing but an os. it's plenty snappy.

I'm using Vista Home Prem x64 on a core2@3.4ghz and 4gb of ram. It runs faster than xp did on this machine.

I will say that the animated window features are a little too slow, but if you turn those off it is just as snappy as before
 
I'm running a Core 2 Duo at 2.4Ghz and 2GB of RAM with Vista Business 32-bit, and it runs faster than XP for me on the same rig, as well. And the animation hasn't caused any slowdown at all (it really shouldn't, since it's offloaded to the GPU--it should actually run faster than running the non-Aero GUI).
 
I used Vista for about 2 months and recently switched back to XP. The thing I liked best about Vista was the new search. However, since I tend to keep things organized anyway, it wasn't that useful for me.

Other than that, I didn't feel there was anything particularly valuable about Vista. I had some issues running Cygwin on Vista, which was quite annoying, since I do a lot of coding in Cygwin. I also felt like the interface wasn't as snappy as the interface in Windows XP---now, my laptop holds much of the blame there, but nonetheless it was detrimental to the experience. I also hate the new Minesweeper. No huge complaints, but the was no good reason to use Vista when I like XP more.
 
I love Vista. And I've known a few people who got a new computer and "didn't like or want vista" despite never using it because of the hate-vista bandwagon. Well, now each and every one loves Vista and would never go back to XP.
