Disabling Seagate USB SATA Controller emulation

I'm curious if anyone knows of any third-party driver or some other method to disable the emulation on Seagates usb-sata controller.

Basically: If I format a drive to NTFS internally, then swap it to the controller, the drive is seen as RAW. Likewise, if I format it to NTFS on the controller than put the drive into my pc it is seen as RAW. ( both cases 4k ).

I can't assign a drive letter both times, I'm simply told that it needs formatting.

One of my internal drives ( 1 TB ) went bad so I disassembled my Seagate Backup Plus Desktop Drive ( 3 TB seen here: http://www.seagate.com/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plus-desk/ -- I haven't seen any images of it disassebled [ ie clip locations ] or videos, so if others need this please let me know and I'll post the photos or make a video... ) and put the drive internally. This is when I noticed the issue. I moved the drive back into the external then I was able to transfer the 1.1TB of data I had on the drive to a spare 500GB Drive I found in a parts pc and to another one of my pcs on the network before putting it back into my pc to format it then transfer the data back.

My issue is that I want to now use this usb-sata controller for some other drives I have without re-buying another enclosure ( without the drive ) or stand-alone controller but I can't with the emulation that is active. The other drives are smaller ( 1TB, 320GB, 160GB, 80GB etc.. ).. I need to grab the data off of the failing drive ( which is either a logic board or motor ) because Steam seems to track game-ownership ( secondary games-library on non-C-drive ) based on the game library on the disk ( major security flaw ) so booting Steam without it removes 26 games ( I've noticed Steam removing games in the past so I've started taking screenshots to track precisely which ones are removed because of this [ and to notify Steam that they have 30 days to restore my access or to provide a physical copy along with legit key so that my rights to access the content remain intact ] )..

If it can't be done, I'll understand but I'd be appreciative of any help. If the exact numbers / keys off the board need to be posted I'll disassemble it completely ( 2 more screws ) and post them.

For now the model number ( according to the website is STDT3000100 ) is SRD00F2 with P/N 1KBAP2-500 3TB purchased from Costco for $99 last year.

----- remainder of post regarding the 1TB drive, looking for parts; will post in WTB if exists or will look on a scrap site later but I figured I'd post it here first because I'm looking for help here too -----

If anyone has a spare logic board for a 1TB Seagate Barracuda M: ST31000528AS / P/N: 9SL154-301 with firmware CC37 around ( or exact which may be required ) date code 10146 and site code: TK -- I'd be interested in purchasing it. Other notables on the board: QR Barcode with 4772 H on it, the board itself has:

0936-04-21
GTC 18
RU ( backwards R ) v-0

together, and perpendicular to that has 100535537 REV A

and to the left of the SATA connections stamped in the plastic is: AMPHENOL and 100438797

Also on the back of the drive is another QR code with
7N399
606065
and 100564583

Thanks in advance!

I have a 2tb barracuda internally - formatted and works no problems.

I have a 3tb barracuda in an enclosure (network). I formatted it in my PC and then put it in the enclosure. Again - no problems.

I have a 3TB seagate and it will not work, I also have many of seagate USB-Sata adapters and they all emulate so will not work! Did you try to see if the data you saved onto the drive matches what was displayed whenconnected to the USB adapter? 2TB and under drives do not have any problems.. neither does my 5TB toshiba USB adapter.. I dont know about WDC since that locked up on larger hard drives. But most likely will behave like the seagate. I now use the Toshiba USB adapter as it will work without any translations or formatting.

Also unless you can read the old prom on the logic board and program the prom on the replacement, you wont be able to read the drive. I think the platter specifications and error data are stored there rather than the platters itself.

I've got my 3TB working in an Astone enclosure.

Alientech - does your 3TB work at all? - internally?

You're saying, that if you:
1) Own a game on Steam
2) Download / install that game to your game library on your HDD
3) Play that game, and then delete it from your game libary
4) Steam will then decide that you no longer own that game???

Doesn't make any sense to me. If you've seen that happening, I think that your Steam is hacked.
