Situation:
I bought a Linksys WRT54GS 2.0 a while back, and I've had a very good experience with it, etc. Right now, I'm running DD-WRT (Sadly, OpenWRT didn't have much in the way of QoS) and it's been good to me in general. I had a problem with my old DSL modem crapping out due to overheating, so I called my ISP. They set me up with a new ADSL plan, saving $5 per month and getting better speeds. They also sent me a new modem, a Zoom X3 5660A. This thing also happens to be a router, making my problem complicated. Torrent smileys became yellow, most of my games became unplayable, VPNS stopped working, and it's been 8 months since my Dad said he would buy a new ADSL modem. I turned 16 late enough to make getting a summer job within a reasonable distance unimaginable, so buying one myself is out of the equasion for a while.. I ran a switch between the ADSL router and the WRT, putting me on a seperate branch, but I soon found out how god-awful the router's features and usefulness was. Lets just say putting my WRT into WAP mode isn't an option.
Short Question:
How can I disable the router function on my Zoom X# 5660A ADSL router, so that I can use the router function of my WRT54GS?
I've tried:
Putting the WRT into WAP mode. The Zoom router sucked badly and was not desirable.
Opening ports from ADSL Router -> WRT -> me. According to google, this works for some people. I'm not one of them.
Getting a new modem. Waited 8 months on parents, no avail.
Google. Hours of Google. I also read the majority of several forums and asked around at some other site, but nobody was familiar with the ADSL modem.
If you are willing to help but are not familiar with the adsl router, I can get screenshots of the configurtion page. I'm also willing to chat on any IM program or using a headset on Ventrilo if you want to get things done that way.
Help is greatly appreciated. I would really like to be able to use the internet for a little bit more than browsing..
