Disabling Onboard sound

I have a gigabyte GA-7VRXP, and have checked off the option to "disable" on board sound chip in the CMOS. However, windows still insists on detecting the on-board chip. Since I have a Hercules sound card attached, both these hardwares conflict, and I can get no sound out of my computer.

Do any of you have a solution to this problem? My guess is that I haven't fully disabled the on-board chip and that I need to do something in addition to what I am already doing.

Check the manual and see if there's a jumper to disable the onboard sound.

Have you removed the onboard sound drivers and applications?
