Disabling drives in hardware

...I have a 2GB SCSI HD that is noisy as hell but it does have a specific purpose. Once in a while. I want to make a switch to keep it from powering up and not let it power down until the system powers down (that's the easy part)...

...will a non-powered drive connected to a cable w/ two powered drives cause problems?

i would use a removeable drive bay in a situation like that, leave it out when not needed, shutdown, pop it in when needed

Currently it's planted behind two fans. Might be cheaper just to buy a quieter HD
