Disable Windows Messenger service?

Is it suggested to disable this? As this says, some messages such as anti virus msgs will be disabled.

If you are getting SPAM through this, yes disable it. If not leave it enabled.


BTW, a simple firewall will block these spamers.

If you are referring to MSN messenger - I disabled it under gpedit.msc but then my outlook express took ages to startup as it was trying to get messenger to connect so I set my firewall to give it no access.

I think he's referring to Windows Messenger Service...

*edit*
Some programs require that Windows Messenger Service be enabled, so like MedicBob suggested only disable it if you're getting spam...
