Disable Win 10 updates?

I just disabled Gwx.exe from the task manager for now and hid the windows 10 icon in notifications. Still researching.
 
You really do not accomplish much doing this. You would stop all updates, including the ones you need and those you want. These "solutions" are an "all or none". When you eventually turn on again, you will receive all the updates whether you want them or not. What is missing is the ability selectively choose which updates you want.

Microsoft introduced this update process with Office 2013. You either received or you did not. The user does not get to pick individual updates. Office did not even advise you which updates you received (it could be different now-- I liked 2010 better so I went back to it.)

At least Win 10 shows a list of the updates installed and gives the user the choice to uninstall and block reinstallation.
 
I only disabled the forced updates. It now has to ask me in order to download and install.

I'd follow the second point there and just have it notify you to download and install.

Not possible. The only options are as follows.

1) Download and restart automatically when you're not using your computer.
2) Download and install but prompt for restart
3) Download everything except driver updates (people say this doesn't function right but I have no trouble with it YMMV)
4) Download the Windows Update tool to hide selective updates (might not be long term and it means you have to constantly check)
5) On Pro you can defer updates until a later date but they will still be installed sometime
6) Disable all updates and get nothing ever.

I disabled driver updates from the device installation settings in the Hardware tab in the system properties

I disabled driver updates from Group Policy

I disabled driver updates by ensuring the value of the following registry entries are set:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
"SearchOrderConfig"=dword:00000000

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\DriverSearching]
"SearchOrderConfig"=dword:00000000


The moment I connected to the internet all drivers were being installed From Windows Updates.

Formatted and went back to Windows 7, I will not let anyone control what drivers I run on my system. period.
 
Like I said I don't know. It works for me, if I let it install drivers it wants to install Intel Ethernet drivers. If I turn it off I never get them.

strange, I mean it should work the way I did it, I disabled driver updates from every location I could, something seems borked about this setting as I'm not the only one complaining about this.

Really surprised how it works for you and I wish it worked for me, I like Windows 10, it's very snappy, I know how to get around the privacy concerns, but this driver update I cannot deal with 🙁
 
Yeah I understand. I have seen this complaint all over. Overclock.net, here, gamefaqs, other sites all have reports of it not working. For me and I have seen at least one other user here say it works fine, it seems ok. It's crazy. I don't know why it wouldn't work and I am not about to hypothesize about why it isn't working for some people.

I think the updates is one of the first things Microsoft is going to address. They almost have to

Microsoft doesn’t provide a built-in way to block updates and drivers from automatically being downloaded, but it does offer a downloadable tool that can block updates and drivers so Windows won’t download them. This gives you a way to opt out of specific updates — uninstall them and “hide” them from being installed until you unhide them."

I've tried everything man, that tool only works the first time for that driver update, if another driver update for the same device comes out like it was the case with my Bluetooth Adapter driver, the next time, the tool won't see the update but Windows updates will see and install it by force. It's like a virus man.

Imagine a situation when your system administrator or a 3rd party software or a malware disabled/restricted Windows Update settings page. In such situations, you won't be able to change Windows Update settings because all available options would be grayed out.

Same thing happened in Windows 10. Since Windows 10 is under development and testing, Microsoft has disabled customization of Windows Update settings because they want Windows to automatically download and install all preview updates. Microsoft don't want testers to modify those settings to prevent them from disabling Automatic Updates.

I guess the option is back that it gives a notification and i can decide to install or not. 🙂
I might need that when a fautly driver or update prevents my system from starting.

No reason for me not to update, at least i will wait a while to be sure that VMware has a windows 10 version and that for all my hardware drivers are available. And that the usual teething problems are sorted out which always happen with new versions of any operating system.

Its in the group policy management. Just google it and there will be sites that show you how to have it set-up that way.

I can now choose to download and install updates whenever I want.
