disable sticky keys in Win XP?

I use the 'shift' key for weapon changing in all of my FPS games, and when I'm doing some fast weapon changing using the shift key, the @$^@ sticky keys window pops up over top of my game asking if I want to turn on sticky keys since I hit the shift key 5 times fast (or however many times it is) and I tell it no, please disable sticky keys. And guess what? hit shift 5 times fast and it comes up again...ugh.

Is there anyway I can TOTALLY disable this feature in XP?

Try going into Add/Remove Windows Components.
if you can't see it in there you need to do this.

Go to C:\WINDOWS\inf and open the sysoc.inf file. See the entries that have word HIDE as second last item on the row. This hide tells system to not to disaply those items/apps in the Add/Remove program list. If you want to have this item in list, simply replace it with blank. Best thing to do is search for all 'hide' references.

Start|Control Panel|Accessibility Options|Accessibility Options (assuming you use the default interface)

No, I didn't stutter. 😀

You'll find the controls for sticky keys in there.

heh, I actually totally uninstalled the accessibility options..yet it still does this. dammit guess I'll reinstall them

**edit** I guess I uninstalled the Wizard only. the only things I have under 'accessiblity options' in control panel are an on screen keyboard and contrast settings.

I'd suggest using Add/Remove Programs' Add/Remove Windows Components option to be sure you have all of the accessibility options installed. Then you should be able to turn off the annoying behavior. On my systems (which do have all Accessibility Options installed) I see a top portion of the Accessibility Options dialog that contains "Adjust the contrast for text and colors on your screen" and "Configure Windows to work for your vision, hearing, and mobility needs". Below large letters which read "or pick a Control Panel icon" I see another "Accessibility Options" link. When I click on that I get an Accessibility Options dialog with five tabs on it: Keyboard, Sound, Display, Mouse, and General. The Keyboard tab has options for StickyKeys, FilterKeys, and ToggleKeys.

Hope you get it sorted.

that worked like a charm. Thanks guys. Now I can play RTCW without the baddies getting the best at me while I'm cursing and closing that window 🙂
