I can't find an option in BIOS to turn off the on-board audio chip. I am trying to use my creative x-fi but when I install the driver it says it can't find a compatible product. I think this is because the on-board device is in place. Any ideas? Thanks.

i hope you don't have X-Fi Xtreme Audio because that isn't real X-Fi board.

Onboard shouldn't matter; My ATi graphics has audio chip too and makes no issues.

In the BIOS, select Chipset -> South Bridge Configuration -> HDA Controller -> Disable. Took me a while to find it too.
