Disable/Change SpeedStep?

I put XP on my laptop, and now it is not fast enough to decode DVDs when unplugged. Is there any way that I can change the settings, or completely turn off, the speed step on my celeron? I know this will degrade battery life, but if I cannot watch movies on battery, what is the point at all?? 😉

Thanks

There has to be some power options in your BIOS, all systems have them, laptops and PC's. What's the make of your laptop?

its a dell Inspiron 2500. I checked the bios just now, and there is a total lack of any power management tools. I checked in the Windows power management, and there was no mention of speedstep....

Check Dell's site, or the software CD's that came with your laptop. The laptops I have seen usually come with a utility that runs in the system tray that allows for adjustments for Speedstep. I still find it odd that your system doesn't have options in the BIOS, especially for a laptop.
