How about this:

Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, then Device Manager tab. Locate CDROM in the list and click the ?plus? symbol to its left. Right-click the name of your CD drive and choose Properties, Settings Tab. Disable the Auto Insert Notification checkbox and click Apply, then Close. Reboot to make the change permanent.

Nope. XP is not the same as Win9X in this case.

What you have listed is just not there anymore.

Run REGEDIT

HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

or Search for this: NoDriveTypeAutoRun (search twice F3)

Change the Value of NoDriveTypeAutoRun from 91 hexadecimal to...bd (hex)

There is also another key DWORD value called NoDriveTypeAutoRun under HKEY_CURRENT_USER changing either one one makes
the CD-ROMs no longer autostart I believe. Although, I recommend changing the second one under USERS.

Go Hex! I'm waiting on that one too . . . just installed XP Pro and I hate that autorun stuff. I burned a CDR today and the thing did an autorun when I finished buring it. :) Yuck!

Do a search on this forum for XP FAQS. There's a whole list of stuff and autorun is there.

Try this in regedit
HKEY_Localmachine\system\currentcontrolset\services\cdrom, change the autorun value to 0

Right, there are apparently 20 different areas all with "NoDriveAutoRun" where you can disable it.

In My Computer, right click the CD drive, then Properties. In the Window, click the Autoplay tab. Now, change everything you want.
