Disable Autorun/Autoplay - USB Issues, Option to Toggle/Refresh USB Devices?

I want to disable autoplay/autorun but still have the availability to manually refresh/update USB devices, anyone know if this is possible or an easy way to do it via reg file or something to toggle USB interfaces as needed, rather than utilize them via "Plug-n-play" method....?

Have you had problems? Disabling that should only prevent executables from executing, or doing other things automatically. The drive should still be recognized, and get mounted fine, it just won't do anything else until you open it, and explicitly do something.

I have had small problems occasionally with my laptop where all USB ports just quit working, no matter how many times I plug/unplug and I thought having a manual way to toggle them when needed would be safer and eliminate the problem.... aka force it to react when I want.

EagleKeeper,

The idea has shifted from simple disable autoplay/auto-run to refreshing/toggle "mountability" of USB ports via registry key(s)....

Disabling the USB controllers in Device Manager, then re-enabling them, might overcome that problem. But it sounds like that would be treating the symptoms instead of treating the disease... if you needed an excuse to get a new laptop, well there ya go 🙂
