dirty fans

i have an enermax true quiet psu it has gotton noisier over time is it the fans getting dirty or noisy bearings? any thaughts apreciated

depending on how old the power supply is, it could be your bearings. i haven't heard of dust causing noise in a p/su, but you can just vaccume it out through the vent slots and find out. if it continues, then you know it's the bearings.

In the past, dust has caused my psu to get louder (temp controlled fans) and hotter. I used a can of compressed air and I had to leave my small work area because of the amount of dust that came out of it! (slight hyperbole - but it was quite a thick cloud of dust. Dust gets trapped in teh heat sink of the PSU as well.

thx im going to void the warrenty and pop the top clean it out and replace th fans.

I had my PSU out recently and the sheer amount of dust in it was sickening. I'm starting to think that a fanless or water-cooled PSU might not be such a bad investment.

haha I used an air compressor on my friends case today, it blew out so much dust it looked like a sand storm :), after I was done the thing was so clean you could see yourself in it :) But yes, dust + case components = problems.
