Dirt2 difficulty question...

So i did the 100% dirt tour thing (amazingly anti-climactic) and decided to up the "difficulty." I have raced a bit and it seems that increased difficulty does not make the competition more difficult, but rather to make your car harder to drive. Is this true? It seems like a shitty way to make a game more difficult since the user knows how to drive a chosen car. Why couldnt they just make the competition drive faster?

Cliffs:
Does difficulty make a car harder to drive or the competition faster?

EDIT: Nevermind. The cars do drive differently with different difficulty levels. I just did the Trailblazer world tour on easy and finished first (meaning i passed everyone) on every race. Much better braking, handling, sliding, etc. Easy v serious is like racing with different cars. What a stupid way to scale difficulty.

Is this a serious question? Upping the difficulty to make a car drive more sim like is a much better idea than making cars get cheats and do physically impossible tasks by making sure the game's physics system no longer apply to them.

BTW it's not "harder to drive" Just more "realistic".

If making it more realistic makes it harder, then it is "harder to drive".

I think it makes the other racers faster, if not faster + harder to drive. I think I remember checking it and they were all finishing about 10 seconds faster.

Well, I only play dirt2 on the hardest difficulty, but whenever one of my friends would leave it on of of the easier setting I don't recall the cars being easier to drive.

More testing and the competition is faster and the cars handle different. Dirt2 is not what i would consider a sim, i thought it was shitty that changing difficulty meant driving "different" cars. The user experience should be constant. Difficulty should make the competition more competitive, not making a car harder to drive.

Well they never said AI difficulty, they just said difficulty. Ill test it out and see.

EDIT: Well, the cars don't feel any different to me. the only thing the makes a difference is the car classes. like novice and all-star and so on.

Thats surprising. The change in handling, braking, and overall "squirreliness" is definitely noticeable when doing the same race on "easy" versus "savage." This is with the WRX STi on Trailblazer World Tour.

I only tried Rallcross quick race, ill try trailblazer a bit later and see.
