I’m pleased to announce that DiRT 3 is now available with 100% less Games for Windows Live.

As a thank you for your patience over this last year we’ll be upgrading everybody who owns DiRT 3 to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition, which will include all of our DLC for no extra cost.

If you currently have the GFWL version of DiRT 3 in your Steam Library you should now also have access to the DiRT 3 Complete Edition which should already be there your list of owned games. To play it simply select it from your library and click install.

However if you own a boxed PC copy of DiRT 3 or have a Games For Window Live CD Key you can now activate that CD key on Steam as well.

Super excited for this. Dirt 3 is a great game, only hindered by GFWL and a crappy DLC model. This new version of the game basically eliminates both those things.

If you already own the game, you'll find the new version listed as a separate entry in your Steam library, titled "DiRT 3 Complete Edition". If you don't own the game, you can grab it on sale right now for 20% off.

Definitely going to hop into some multiplayer tonight. For what appears to be a simple driving game on the surface, Dirt 3 actually has some surprisingly entertaining multiplayer modes (including an "infected" mode). Anyone who wants to join me is more than welcome.

I have this in my Steam account and tried installing it in November.....and failed. Gave up. Have better things to do.

I guess I now know why.

Noob question: is there a "campaign" within this game? I could never figure that out....or is there just MP and tracks you can run on in single player?

Regardless, thanks for posting and bringing this to my attention!

Awesome! This is one of the free games I got with my Radeon last year and I've been avoiding playing it because it used GFWL. Will download this tonight. :)

Awesome! Been a long while since I played, but this gives me some reason to do so.

Sounds like we have to uninstall the old version and install this one? Will saves easily transfer over, even though the game is technically different? Or is it only different at the Store level, but the Dirt 3 game will see the previous save and config files?

Unfortunately, because of differences in the two versions, saves are not compatible, so veteran Dirt-ers will have to start over from scratch. On the upside, owners of the boxed or GFWL versions can activate those keys on Steam to get the Dirt 3 Complete Edition at no charge. A few users, myself included, have reported that the game hasn't appeared in their library yet; Williams suggested that anyone encountering a delay log out of Steam and then reconnect.

Bummer - saved games can't transfer. I wonder if you can simply manually move save and config files without any further effort? Or if, because the game now directly includes so much additional content, that even copying save files won't work. With extra content I guess starting over may at least feel a bit fresh.

There is a complete campaign. :)

Yeah, I figured it out last night. It's logically named "The Dirt Tour". This UI isn't very intuitive in my opinion. This is one of those rare games where I actually have to get off my a$$ and go to the Steam store page and read the pdf manual if I want to understand it/play it.

The Arkham games had the same issue when they dropped GFWL. You could get them working by editing some lines out of the saves with a hexeditor though.

I figured a little work in Notepad++, or, as you said, even digging into hex code, could be the solution. Whenever I get around to hooking up my wheel again, I'll get to testing out this theory. I'm sure someone will figure that out and I can google it and just follow directions. :)

This is great news.

I bought this game on Steam, and due to GFWL breaking it, had to download some modified (cracked) files to get it to run without connecting.

Big PITA that I'm glad I can do without now.

Same. I used the game to show off the power of that new card, but hated the GfWL stuff that came with it. Looks like I can now go back to playing it without the frontend headache.

I'm not sure where the new DiRT3 Complete savegame location is. The original DiRT3 location was in <driveletter>:Users\<username>\Documents\my games\DiRT3\savegame but there are no new files created there after playing the new Complete Edition. Must be saved in the Steam cloud.

What's the exact name of this in the Steam games folder? DiRT 3 Complete Edition?

Hoping many of the large files will remain unchanged, and I can just paste them into the new folder to let Steam sort out what's missing. Instead of dling gigs for no reason. Sucks not having a landline isp.

Good idea, I didn't think to try that before I downloaded the whole thing. "DiRT 3 Complete Edition" is the folder name, it's 13.7GB installed.

So I dove into Dirt3 this weekend and it's quite a bit more fun than I expected.

I do have one question I can't seem to figure out. Before each race you're presented with several team offers. Each with a different bonus rep....but the offer to the far left is always WAY more rep than the others (like 2,250 vs 150 or 250).

Why would anyone choose a team with a low bonus rep over the one with the super high rep?

Really thinking I'm missing something here.

So far, I've enjoyed the truck race (at night in the rain in Michigan) and the buggy race (at night in the snow and ice in Aspen) the most.

I'm playing on casual which is definitely that.....too easy. But I can't even make it through one turn (without spin out) in Intermediate so.....

Also...can't drift worth sh*t........

I only had to download 6GB for it (dirt 3 complete) to work, not sure if I already had the old Dirt 3 files on the steam folder, but it was not installed.

Billing?

The game is free if you had Dirt 3. Or did you not have it? It sounded like you wanted to transfer the game files?

He's probably on cellular and is close to his cap. He mentioned no landline ISP earlier in the thread.
