DiRT 2 Demo is out

I downloaded it and ran the benchmark but I didn't play it yet.

I don't like that the demo requires you to install games for windows live just to play it. It also installs some third party audio program. It installs both of these without asking or telling you they are needed beforehand. The game also doesn't place a shortcut on the desktop nor does it create any start menu folders for the game. It doesn't give you the option.(It does create start menu folders for that garbage audio program though) The only way to play the demo is to go into program files and manually find and open the exe. When you go to uninstall the game, it leaves behind both games for windows live and the other program it installed. More console port trash...

I just played the demo and I really like it and will buy it.
I have GFWL already so I didn't care about that.

I averaged about 72fps in the bench with everything on high at 1680x1050.
Demo ran real smooth
I'll up everything to Ultra in the retail game like I have in Dirt when I get it.
I loved Dirt1 and if you like that you'll probably like 2
Latest release date is Friday for Steam and I heard Dec. 8 at other sites

I got the demo today, and for some reason, while in the trailer it runs at like 3fps, but once out the trailer, or playing a race, it runs fine.

Anyone else having the same problem?

BTW it runs at over 35fps at a minimum, 41fps average, with everything turned all the way up on high and ultra at 1680x1050, 2xaa on a amd 9500 quad at 2.4ghz and a 4850 video card stock.

Is it arcade-y with super grip and brakes of more like a sim as in CMR?

Them menu system looks atrocious, I think I will hate this game.

Well in the trailblazer event that's there the braking distances are much longer than in dirt1. and on gravel there's very little grip, if you don't take the right line you'll end up in the mountains. I think its a much better game overall than Dirt1. The car physics are much better.

I've played this game now for about 45mins - it's a fun racer, leaning more toward the arcade side than a sim. Driving physics are fun, AI isn't too stupid etc.

Dirt1 is my favorite PC game. I am not able to DL the demo at this time. Anyone think this will be worth the $$?

Also, does it make full use of a quad core? If so, is it more demanding on the CPU or GPU? I don't want to have ot buy any more parts for a while.

This game seems to be nicely optimized, at least on DX9. It runs pretty smooth on my system, with detail settings at high, except post processing at medium (which I can't select higher than that anyway, I think you need DX11 hardware for that).

the menus are terrible.

the gameplay is arcadey with no grip. but really good brakes. i liked the phyics of the CMR games a lot better, though they certainly weren't sims.

I bought the game, it's a lot of fun. I kinda suck at rally games (more into tarmac) so I'm not good at it, but it's cool. Graphics are incredible and it runs ridiculously smooth at max (ultra) settings (except post processing which can't go beyond medium, presumably due to DX11 effects) on my 4890 and 955BE. Average framerate 68, minimum framerate 55.

I don't really know how arcady it is because I don't play a lot of rally games but it feels good to me. Damage model is very, very cool. Selection of cars is reasonable but not amazing. The menu system is certainly different, I wouldn't say "terrible", I think they're interesting.

If you're going to judge a game on it's menu system then you're an idiot.

I have this exact problem and I run a Q6700 and a HD4850. I heard it was a widespread issue with the HD4830 and HD4850 video cards. I expect this to be patched in the coming weeks when the game's released.

Nice stuff.

I didn't play DiRT, but i loved GRID, & i already am pretty sure i'll be picking this up.

Graphics are gorgeous, & like GRID, i can run w/ everything maxed 4xAA @ 2560x1600 smoothly.

It's funny, because w/ NFS: Shift, or should i say NFS:Shit, i could never get it ever playable due to the controls being completely effed.

This game, just fine w/ defaults for the keyboard, which i use.

Hmm. According to nearly everyone's FPS numbers, looks like it will run fine. DiRT was pretty unoptimized. As in I get a constant 43-48fps, all high 2xAA @ 1680x1050. It appears I'll get about the same with the same settings.

Anyone tried a racing wheel with it yet? I've got a Logitech MOMO racing set.
