directx9 problem? windows update?

Hey

i just installed direct x 9 beta prepatched version without the timebomb yesterday for winxp, and today i went to windows update and it says

"Access Denied

Network policy settings prevent you from using Windows Update to download and install updates on your computer.

If you believe you have received this message in error, please check with your system administrator."

any idea's?

it worked before D9 beta, I already cleared IE's cache and cookies

UPDATE:
well, i just loaded my image from a few days ago instead of worrying about it

but

windows update still gives me the same message, odd, i'm using the corp version of xp with the blacklisted key so I wonder if mirco$oft has looked at my key and matched wtih my system specs or something

I'm sorry, but you're screwed. They do check your CD-KEY now with Windows Update, as it says in the support information that is at the convenient little link at the bottom of the Windows Update page.

You could have avoided this problem by purchasing a LEGAL copy of XP, like myself and others. When you use a hacked version of software it makes it worse for legit users. The reason MS implemented the activation is because of people like you. Now I have to call MS every time I reformat my HDD to get that damn activation code. Just my 2 cents.

This might not be you, I'm also getting an error (and this is a legit key from MSDN). They are trying to update components and they appear not to be signed, so at most security levels the controls won't install. Is anyone else seeing this?

Bill

Weird, clearing my cache (and turining my security level to low for a minute) let me grab the new controls and the update site is working. I think someone screwed up at MS and didn't sign the cab. I'm working on getting it pulled now.

Bill

UPDATE:

I changed my corp key, cleared cache and cookies, and lowered security and cookie settings and it still gives me that error

Who cares how much you don't want to hear it. He's right about the problem being avoidable, and he's right about the reason MS had to go to somthing like this in the first place.

Like I said, I dont condone piracy. I just took exception to his condescending tone.

Also, he was complaining about having to call Microsoft everytime he formats his hard drive. This is not true. If no components are changed in the system (and even then you can change certain ones), you do not have to call Microsoft. You just have to reactivate the OS, which is simple 15 second click, click, click and you're done procedure.

I have no problems with my direct x 9.0 beta. I received mine from my mothers beta place account so it is legal.

PS, I use a Legal Copy of windows XP Pro, so, I dunno about the warezed version of XP
