directx video gaming HELP

games have stopped working and its driving me nuts cause i just installed indigo prophecy.
i have a dell e1405 connected to a 20" crt monitor most of the time with no issues. so i found a directx.dpl file to ruun the diagnostic tool but it wont work - "an error occurred starting the directx diagnostic tool", which i cannot find any info about.
i have reinstalled my onboard graphic drivers and the directx wont let me reinstall claiming i already have the latest version.

game errors:
Fear - "unable to utilize the renderer to a valid video mode"
The thing - one second black screen then back to windows
soldat: could not initialize directx graphics...

what should i do? it says its installed but wont work...

was even looking for a way to uninstall directx to then reinstall but couldnt find a program that worked.
 
okay. how much ram does system properties say it has available?
can you give me the service tag so I see the detailed specs, please?
 
you mean directx.cpl , right?
Try running "sfc /scannow"
If that does not work, try backing up your files and doing repair installation of XP.

Don't reinstall XP quite yet. 🙂

How are you trying to reinstall DirectX? Please give the version name of the file you're using to do so.

to the OP, when you ran SFC did it ask you for the XP cd at any time?

also, when you can, could you tell me the bios revision you're running?

 
ok, i do have the latest bios (MX61_A10), i just tried sfc and nothing happens, black window shows for a split second (this is not in safe mode).
i have the dxwebsetup file which doesnt do anything but tell me i am up to date, so i use directx_nov2007_redist which is like a 66mb file.
i did use a dx9uninstaller from http://www.3dcenter.org/downlo...ctx-dx9uninstaller.php in safe mode (with the windows cd) which helped. now it lets me get into dxdiag but i get the directsound error and the games still dont work.

the last thing i want to do is reinstall xp.
 
o dam, i was just going through the dxdiag and enabled direct3d acceleration (dont know why it was off or if it should have been). thank god games now work, so i guess all thats left is the directsound error... and SFC not working

you do know how to bring a command prompt window up?

I'd suggest you run http://housecall.trendmicro.com and have it do a complete scan of the system.

to get a command prompt you do the following:

1. click start
2. click run
3. type "cmd"

the window that pops up then you run "sfc /scannnow"

you're going to have to reinstall the sound card driver pack, when you uninstalled DX9, you took the files with it.
 
o, i tried to run sfc /scannnow in the run window, my bad.

through cmd i got an error: windows file protection could mot initiate a scan of protected system files.
error code 0x000006ba (RPC server is unavailable)
 
it's the one of the backbone services of windows. if it's down then it means alot of windows services like knowing exactly where the file is stored on the hdd is not working properly, your antivirus is not able to function, sound and video can't function properly.

the wiki shows how it's tied into DHCP,SSH,IMAP,POP3,HTTP,FTP,IRC, ETC.
