DirectX Error message and crashes. Please give me a hand.

This is the message i get lately when i play Battle for Middle Earth after it crashes to desktop. http://users.tellas.gr/~ilias78/DX%20error.jpg

My system specs:

A64 3000+ socket 754
Chaintech VNF3-250
512MB RAM
Geforce3 Ti200
120GB Hard drive
Chieftech 360W PSU

Im using the 71.81 drivers, the latest Nforce drivers as well as Directx 9.0c. Note that this is the ONLY problem i have with my system. Other than that, its stable like a rock, working 24hours a day. System temps are well within specs.

Any advice would be most welcomed.

Interestingly your error message references DX8, while you say you have DX 9.0c.

You should run the dxdiag.exe application and see what's amiss.

Start/Run and type in the Open box "dxdiag" without quotes. Click OK. Look in the Display tab to see if everything there is "accelerated". vs. disabled.

Also, look at your DX file list and ensure they are all DX9 files.

I have ran dxdiag tests many times and i passed them all with flying colours. But here is the interesting part: I read your suggestion and i decided to run dxdiag again anyways. When dxdiag was loading, the system rebooted...!!

After i came back to windows, first i got this message: http://oca.microsoft.com/en/response.as...52e-c4a6-40e8-8256-c147df4b436a&SID=10

And when i tried to run dxdiag again, it showed me this: http://users.tellas.gr/~ilias78/Directsounderror.JPG After that though, dxdiag loaded just fine and i passed all tests succesfully.

Honestly this is crazy. I dont know what else to do.

Well, it would appear to me that these error messages are now pointing to your soundcard, vs. your video. DirectX, afterall, is video and sound control.

What soundcard do you have and what driver level? I'd be reinstalling the sound drivers.
