i found something right clicking the exe setup file.

File version : 6.00.2448.0000 (Lab04_N(rahulth).010206-1320)

^^^^ doesnt that mean "beta" or rc"testng" ??

The good news is that the Catalyst 2.6s can't be too far off and they're supposed to be a big (DirectX 9) release.

Well, I installed it and am very happy I did. On the Radeon 9700 with Catalyst 2.5, my stuttering in BF1942 is gone, and perfomance in that game seems better. Same performance in SplinterCell and I have not tried UT2K3 yet.
Also, DX9 installed/runs fine on my brother's GF3 system....And when you run dxdiag, it says official (at least it doesn't say unofficial )

So, looks like it is the real deal!

It messed up WMP and DviX player for me, no difference in games or 3D Mark, had to get the patch for 3D Mark to get it to work. I have a GF4 Ti-4200. I did a sys restore to get back my WMP and DviX cant be without them.

I had no problems with install of DX9, all went very smooth,one reboot with XP and all done.

Just installed DirectX 9 and Catalyst 3.0 drivers for my Radeon 7200 (aka SDR PCI). Quick tests in UT2003 and 3dsmax 5 seemed to reveal somewhat smoother and perhaps a little faster performance, but no scientific testing has been conducted yet.

Just spent the whole night downloading the 200++MB DirectX 9 SDK. Everything seems fine so far, no issues with my current games.

When I initially installed DX9 and Catalyst 3.0 for my 9700 Pro, My system could no longer run Everquest because it could find a directX capable card... WTF??!!.... So I restored to an earlier point and reloaded, and it worked fine after that.

OOPS...Sorry... that was my ti4400 card that had the problem....not my 9700pro
