DirectX 9 game and video card with DirectX 8.1 support

If I have video card with DirectX 8.1 support will be I able to play DirectX 9 games with DirectX 9 installed on my computer?
 
You have to differentiate between games that use DX9's video features and games that need it for other stuff. If the game needs a DX9-capable card, you can't run it. if it can just use DX8 features over DX9 ones with your card, you can.
 
I'm not aware of any game that demands DX9. Some utilize DX9 and you get extra 'stuff' with a DX9 video card, but
to re-iterate, I am not aware of any game DX9 or otherwise that won't run on a DX8 video card.
