I know that my Gainward GeForce4 Ti4200 video card hasn't hardware support for the DX 9. So is there any gain in downloading and installing it now?

The best of my knowledge, all current Nvidia cards do NOT support DirectX9 features, so I would say it is not required, but I don't think installing it can hurt. Just make sure you have a system restore point or partition image backup before doing this.

I`ve DX9 installed with my GF2 TI card,no problems with any games for me, Nvidia don`t have a DX9 card out yet.You should`ve no problems installing and running games with DX9,but then I can only speak for myself ;).

install it if you want, most of the time there is no problems with it. It adds direct x 9 to your system and fixes some problems with previous direct x. Who knows your fps may be up by 5 or 10.

Installed DX9 on the following system:

AMD Thunderbird 1.2
Geforce 2 GTS 32 meg card
512 megs DDR (266mhz FSB)

3DMark 2001 scores:

3624 with DirectX8
3698 with DirectX9

Take from that what you will (my system is crap, I know. :) )

I installed DX9 on my p3 560 w/ATI Rage Fury 128 GL, 32mb

runs fine at lowest detail for like NWN and WC3.
and i got a WHOPPING 603 3dmark @ 1024*768
can't top that!

i never used that comp for gaming w/o DX9 (i just recently tried using it again)
