hi all :)

I was wondering if anyone had come across a DirectX 8.1 uninstaller for windows 2000. I installed it the other day and now has broken AGP texturing. As a result, Operation Flashpoint now cannot texture from ram but rather from the hdd, making the game next to impossible to play. It also decreases performance by a substantial margin.

If ANYONE has any info with regard to this, could you please let me know. If it requires that i reinstall w2k then i will do so

Any help much appreciated :)

Here it says :

<< NOTICE: After installation, the DirectX 8.0a run time cannot be uninstalled. DirectX is a system component. It cannot be uninstalled without reinstalling your operating system. >>

So this means you are out of luck :(

Hey Weyoun, is that the final DX 8.1? Or is it a beta version?

I've looked at MS's website and all I could find is DX 8a.

Yeah I had a snoop around M$' site, but couldn't find anything, only the 'DirectX is a system component' statement... :/ Ahh well, at least i know what i'll be doing for the next few days :/

This copy of DX8.1 is a beta (i KNEW i shouldn't have installed it), with the URL coming from Shagga in the forums :) If you'd like a copy, PM me and i could send you the URL :)

Also, I'm about to post a reply in your thread with regard to your system performance. :)

Uh, thanks but no thanks. I think I'll wait for the official version. ;)

I ran it in win2k for a few days before a reinstall, and I couldn't tell a difference from 8.0a. DirectX 8.1 comes preinstalled in Windows XP, so I guess it's not too far off...

did you try this???

edit-- oops, I think it doesn't work in win2k.

You could try reinstalling win2k over itself. It will restore directx 7, and your programs and drivers should still work fine. Can't hurt to try before a format.:)

<< Just install 8.0a on top of it, it should fix your probs i think. >>

ok, well, we did it going from 7.x to 6.x on a win95 system. My buddy installed dx7 and new drivers for his VD2 and many of his games went screwy. So we reinstalled his old drivers from the original disk and it asked us if we wanted to install DX6, we said yes.

Everything went back to normal.

So it might not work, but its worth a shot as a last ditch effort.
