It is unfortunate for gamers but this is just the unfortunate price of progress. Directx is already quite old and many aspects of it would be an anachronism in an environment that is 3d all the time where GDI is in the dustbin.

3d all the time? Does that mean my graphics card will run in the 3d power state constantly? If so then that just seems wasteful...
