Our company has a few locations that are in desolate areas with no chance at DSL/Cable. My boss has decided against wireless and asked about these two companies and I thought I would ask for opinions here. Has anyone used either of these and if so what were your thoughts on them?

Wild Blue

Direcway

I finally convinced my parents to get satellite. Wild Blue was cheaper for equipment and for service. They've only had it a month, but it has been rock solid for them. Their location is in NE Alabama in the Mountains.

I've read some good things about Wild Blue, and many, many horrible things about Direcway, though even *it* is better than nothing. Be sure to check out the forums over at BroadbandReports.com - you'll learn a lot if you read and ask questions in their satellite / Direcway forum.

i have read a lot of god things about wild blue. I have Direcway NOW and hate it. IF i could get anything other then them i would.

between them locking you down for over use (wich is not much) and them going out at the drop of a hat and expensive!

but already payed for the equipment and do not want to shell out another $400 for wild blue.

I have had wildblue since last fall and have not had a problem.

my neighbor just switched to wildblue from directway and he said he had nothing but problems. he would be down for a couple of weeks and working from home via VPN was not cutting it.

Newsflash: VPNs are known to be unreliable when used over consumer grade satellite connections.

That said, sometimes they work, sometimes they don't.

Personal opinion is I don't mind WB but Dway would drive me nuts:D That being said, (1) pretty much anything is better than Sat due to the lag, you'll run 500 - 800 on WB and 700 - 1200 on Dway, Basic gist is that it goes Dial Up < Satellite < Pretty much everything else. (2) Make sure you get a decent install, if you don't its gonna be a mess no matter what you do.

Same here. Direcway sucks, but it's not worth it to buy new equipment for Wild Blue when it will be marginally better at best. Too bad Verizon will never deploy FIOS to my area. :(

I'd try to get your boss to reconsider wireless, if at all possible. Unless ping isn't a big concern, that is.

<--- Wild Blue. When they say speeds up to X, they mean up to. Good luck hitting X or getting close to it.
I should have canceled within the 30 day trial period.
On the upside, equipment and installation was cheaper than DW.
But don't bother emailing tech support, they won't answer. You have to call them.
