Directv Question.

I am looking into getting DirecTv for my new house.... But on their site it doesn't say wether it gets the major networks (CBS, NBC, FOX, ABC)... Does it get those networks or not?

I believe you get 3-5 local channels.. which include those..

You can if you are near a major city - you will get their feeds. It costs a couple extra bucks a month though.

you should be able to get Houston's local channels----I believe it's an extra 5.99/month for local channel access

Ok, you want local channels or you don't want local channels? Do you want the local feeds of FOX, CBS, ABC and NBC? You will definitely get those and possibly more for your local feeds (I get KCAL and WB in Southern Cali), so if that's what you want, you will get them.

You will miss out of very local stations. I don't get the local international channel, UPN (either local or national feed), or local PBS. You can always hook up some bunny ears on your TV for the few stations you don't get.

I have been looking at DirectTV recently. I currently have TW digital cable and TW RR service. Since I plan to keep my RR, I will still need to subscribe to TW basic cable ($10/month). I believe you can also set your Video1 or Video2 to use the basic cable connection. This would be a means of getting all yur local channels and all other basic cable stations...

What I was wanting to know is if they broadast nationally ABC and the others.... SO IF I DON'T WANT THE LOCAL AFFILIATE CAN I STILL GET THE NATIONAL BROADCASTS... Is the only way to get ABC, NBC etc through local channels?

DirecTV overbilled me this month, and now I can't get through on their customer service line; it keeps coming up busy.

I'm not sure if it's nationwide, but here on the east coast I get both the New York and LA feeds for ABC CBS &amp; NBC.

That kinda sucks that you cant get National channels w/o local though...

Arod, there is no such thing as a national broadcast of ABC, CBS, NBC, etc.... They are all provided by local affiliates. I have Dish Network which operates the same way as DirecTV. I'm in Atlanta so I get the Atlanta local affiliates for $5.99 a month. If you're not in one of the major cities where they offer local broadcast, then you can pick which cities you want to get your locals from. You will always have some type of local affiliate broadcast, even though it may not be from your city.

This is not true. If they carry your local affiliates, you can receive those for $5.99/month and usually limited to ABC, NBC, FOX, CBS. They carry very few UPN or WB affiliates. If you live in a city that they do not carry, they will NOT give you another cities feed unless you get a waiver from your local stations allowing them to do that for you and the locals as a rule do not give out these waivers. Since the new law (or FCC rulings, or whatever) went into effect a year ago, the only way they will provide you with another cities feed is if you live out the middle of nowhere and cannot receive anything via antenna. The local stations and networks lobbied hard for this because they were scared to lose out of ad revenue.

I just dropped DirecTV last month after 4 years. Time Warner digital cable where I live was the same price for more stations (once I added in the $10. I was paying for locals from them since DirecTV had no UPN or WB). I'm getting many more stations that DirecTV did not carry.

Didn't know about the ruling in Miami. Got mine before that happened.

my neighbor has directv with local channels and we can receive antenna broadcasts.
