I am on the cheapest package right now to save, but every now and again Spike has UFC Ultimate Fight night and I like to tune in. Does DirecTV allow you to change your package that night and then change it back over the next day at a prorated amount? I couldn't find the info on their website. Am I being too cheap... I hate streaming fights b/c of the lag.

Thank you so much for your insight. Most packages are a ripoff today anyway, considering most of us only watch a handful of channels and are still required to pay a full premium for hundreds of junk channels.

Meh, a la carte TV should never happen. If it does, it's not going to turn out the way most people want. You're going to be paying a large amount of money for "speciality" channels that a lot of people don't watch, but which are probably over-represented on ATOT.

Is Spike included? I pay around $45 a month for my HD basic package w/out DVR (I never use it).

A la carte is the way to go... I'd happily pay $3-4 per channel and be done with it.

I believe you can change your package as often as you want, but the last time I downgraded there was an additional charge.

Interesting... how much of a charge? And why?

Don't quote me on it as it has been awhile, but I think it was $5. As for why, because they can I assume. I think they tried to pass it off as some sort of account service fee or some such BS.

Well I guess if it boils down to me paying a $5 fee for a 1 day programming switch then I'm all for it. Better than paying an extra $15-$20 a month.

I do not see a package like that when I go to their website. It's $55/month + $10 for each HD box, taxes etc.

When I said $45 I meant total for everything for the Family Package w/ HD on one box.

same here and with 4 receivers I pay over $100/month. Just can't get rid of the Sports Package, HD Package and Playboy.

the package itself lists for alot more, but they had a ton of specials running. free HD, free DVR, money back for using online billing, etc.
