Comparing my local channels that i'm getting on Antenna with the local channels on direcTV, objects seem blurry, along with faces of people...or is it just me?

I switched to an S-video cable and it exhibited the same thing :(

Direct Tv compresses locals down to 2meg/per sec.
Industry standard for DTV is 3.5-4.5mbs for SD

Less data=Less resolution

Is that still the case even with their fairly recent "spot beaming" or whatever you want to call it?

Actually, lately I too have been noticing a drop in video quality on DirecTV. It's bad even on the HD channels. The most noticable symptoms are a "smearing" of faces.

When the faces move, the colors smear a bit, then catch up. It's almost like an acid flash back. But I know I'm not tripping because by local OTA ABC HD channel was not doing this.

It was so bad during Six Feet Under that I almost turned it off.

Samsung SIR-S300W

I'm using Sony HD200s and it's happening to me. DirecTV is doing the same damn thing they've been doing for years: compressing their signals WAY too much. Now they are making HD look as bad as SD. :|
