Last week I finally bought a DirecTV TIVO DVR. As part of the setup for this I have had to finally re-adjust the dish alignment since it has been slightly off after contractors removed it from the side of the house last summer when we had siding replaced. I have noticed that transponders 4, 12, 20, and 28 are significantly weaker than all the others especially 28 on which I can only get a maximum strength of 15-16. All the others are between low to high 90's so I have to assume that the dish is aligned correctly and these transponders are providing a much weaker signal. Is this normal?

It may depend on where you live. I'm in the SE, and all of my transponders are constantly 98-99. Perhaps there's more variance if you live farther north.

Are you missing any Channels?

You don't use every transponder on a bird. Those Transponders may not be in full use or are transmitting at a reduced power level for other services not related to the DirectTV channels on your box.

I don't seem to be at the moment but that is what led to this whole realignment in the first place. As part of setting up the new DVR I had to add a multi switch. When my wife was trying to watch something that first evening she was getting the searching for satellite message. Everything seems good at the moment and it looks like most of those transponders only deliver the 900 local stations which we do not get. I did notice that 28 seems to be used for the music stations so maybe it does not have to be at the same level since no video is sent over it. I just found it odd that there could be such a drastic difference.
