How does DTV work if you have multiple TVs?

Another valid question. Each TV gets it's own box, I think. But everyone in the house can watch something different...right? I seem to recall it not being that way a long time ago.

Correct. Each TV gets its own box, and yes, each TV can be on different channels.

$5 per month for each box.

HD costs $10 a month.
.

are you saying that each HD box is 10/month or getting an HD Package is 10/month?

the additional $5/box/month is the mirror fee which allows the programming package from the main Dish TV box to be mirrored on other boxes in the house so you can watch different channels on different TV's at the same time.

I would guess that you cannot have different packages (i.e. non HD Packages for non-HD TV's) for various TV sets in the house...

I switched from TWC to DirecTV and have been very happy with it. WAAAAY more HD channels (and channels in general). Cheaper. Better DVR unit.

I got 2 SD boxes and and an HD DVR for $100 including installation. With the monthly lease costs from TWC, it will save me money after about 6 months.

HD and DVR are for a package and are only paid once a month per household, not per box.

I have directv and love it. It's more expensive per month than cable used to be, but I get around 80 HD channels now and Video on demand is great.

I got an HD DVR and 3 HD recievers for $180. Free install obviously.

Uh no. I pay a package rate (72 bucks). I pay no rental on my HD-DVR (paid 100 up front). I pay 5 to lease an HD receiver for my other TV.

They also offer a dual DVR master box, get one if you can. Lost signal in bad electrical storms but overall much better than cable IMO.

I haven't Direct TV service in awhile...back then you owned your equipment and actually paid the mirror fee..

it looks like now many of the current deals are lease specials and you have to turn in the box when you stop service with them (looks like there are a bunch of unhappy customers because of this) and instead of paying the mirror fee, you paying a lease fee...

AFAIK, the HD-DVR box I own outright (no monthly fee). The leased box (obviously) goes back to them at the end ($5/month).
