should i powerdown my DirecTIVO when i'm not using it? will this allow me to record videos, or will anything happen if i leave it on 24/7?

It won't phone home to get schedule updates and it also won't record things for you that you've scheduled ...

It really doesn't matter, because unless you unplug it will still be active.

EDITED because I'm not sure what you mean by powerdown. Do you mean the standby feature, or actually removing AC from it?

ok. do i have to have all my boxes plugged in? or will DirecTV get pissed if i don't connect them?

You'll start getting message after message after message on your DirecTivo to plug it back in so it can make its daily call. Other than the nag message, nothing will happen.

You don't have to keep them plugged in. It only dials out to check for PPV purchases. If you make a lot of PPV purchases you need to plug it in. Otherwise, you won't be able to make PPV purchases after a while because your card's memory is filled.
