Ran into a problem tonight. Looks my hard drive crashed on my portable SFF rig. Nothing on it but some games so no serious loss of info or data that can't be replaced. About a week or so ago I bought and downloaded Mount & Blade from Direct2Drive. No disk to fall back on so I thought I'd try and download and install it on my main rig. Supposedly this can be done. I have the game key and everything but I couldnt figure out how to do it from the D2D website. I went to their 24 hour online support but it seems to be nothing more than email type of support. I have an open ticket but I'm guessing I wont hear anything back till the next day. If I'm lucky.

So my question is this. Has anyone redownloaded a previous bought game from D2D? And if so how is it done? I went through their FAQ and all it talks about is how to download a game as you buy it. I have their DL Manager installed but it doesnt show my previous purchase. I'm assuming thats because this is on another pc that didnt get the original download to begin with. They say our game purchases are backed up on their site but I cant seem to figure out how to access this info. I even tried to do a search on D2D website for the file but all I got was an error message.

Can anyone give me some help? I'd really like to play M&B again without rebuying it. Its no longer on sale for $5. Its gone back to it's $30 price tag. If I have to rebuy this game I'd sooner do it via Steam. Their system seems to be more simplistic than D2D. They have a tab of all your games you bought through them and all you have to do is click on it.

Thanks in advance

Just log into your D2D account online https://www.direct2drive.com/account.aspx Go to your account, and re-download. I bought NWN2 from D2D back 2006, and it's still available for download. Steam does make this a bit more intuitive, but you don't have to launch an additional app with D2D every time you want to play your game.

Thank you Nitromullet! I got the DL to work. Thanks so much! Man, I hate to deal with pc breakdowns at 2AM in the mornings. LOL Yes, D2D could make their website a little more intuitive like Steam does. Of course I shouldn't try doing things like this so late in the night or so early in the mornig depending on how you view it. Anyway THANK YOU! again.

FYI, as long as you have the key for Mount and Blade (I think they email it to you), you don't actually need the D2D files. You can just download the game off the developer's website and then plug the key in.

That's what I did.

You can retrieve your key from D2D also by logging into your account.

Glad I could help. Best thing about digital distribution is 24hr access IMO. :)

A bit off topic, but does anyone get slow speeds from Direct2Drive? Steam downloads can get very fast, but D2D downloads from fileplanet are often-times around 200-250k for me, topping out at 400-500 only sometimes.

I tend to get about half the speed from D2D than from Steam. But half speed is 1-1.5mb/s, and it's not like I'm downloading things from them very often.

I finally bought something off D2D last night, I was bouncing from 500-900 KB/s, and once in a while hitting 1.1 MB/s. It's faster for me than I can remember from Steam.

For me Steam varies, from 100K-1M, usually around 200K. I was going to try D2D with the Lucasarts adventure pack but they seem to have more region restrictions than Steam, they did not offer it outside the US. Odd though... I think I saw them offer XCom outside the US which Steam doesn't. Always confusing.

Easy way to do it, click the US flag and buy with D2D or click the UK flag and but it.

I guess I;m in the minority with slow speeds on D2D. I live in the Midwest, maybe just something up with their servers out here around Chicago/St.Louis/Indy?

I don't know about D2D but Steam knows your country via IP or some similar means. I doubt I could just claim that I am in the US with D2D.

If someone in the US buys a game and gifts it to you, I think it'll work.

As a comparison the first time I DLed M&B from D2D it was around 1pm EST and I was getting speeds between 2.0MB/s per second and 2.2MB/s. The second time it was around 7am EST and I was getting 2.3MB/s - 2.5MB/s. I have FIOS here in Florida.
