Direct X10 dates?

When is the release date for the first Direct X10 Game?

Is there a launch date for Direct X10 by Microsoft?

Is there a Direct X10 game out there that everyone is complaining about DX10 drivers?

DirectX 10 is already installed with Windows Vista.

You won't see a "true" DirectX 10 game for years.

Most "DirectX 10" games will either be hybrids or patched versions of DirectX 9.

Thanks I just read Vista ships with DX10 and DX9L.

I expect games to be DX9 with some patches for DX10 but not full blown as I dont think there is enough of a market or possible gpu horsepower as its a pretty big jump from the dx9 specs.

These are the only DX10 games I know of ATM:
Crysis
Alan Wake
Unreal Tournament 3
Flight Simulator X (w/ patch)
EVE Online (w/ patch)
Hellgate: London
Company of Heroes (w/ patch)
Age of Conan
Shadowrun
Supreme Commander (w/ patch)

Not sure on the dates though, but I am pretty sure some might be this year or early next.

I wonder if any are launching with the ATI press release/launch? Or if they will at least have a demo.

BTW: Thanks for the list you have a few I didnt know about.

Alan Wake and Crysis due in six months. Or are they not pure dx10?

EVE Online will not have a DX10 client until 2008. They are bringing out two new clients, one for DX9 and one for DX10. Despite popular belief the original client is based off of DX7 and 8. There will be no DX10 patch, it will be a completely new freely downloadable client.

It is pretty much the ONLY reason why I will buy a new video card. Vista isn't so bad but I could care less about other games. Quake Wars and EVE are the only games I'll play ( with the occasional wow ) for years to come.

halo 2 only needs a dx9 card...dx10 stuff can be turned on if you have a dx10 card, of course.

I guess I should say those games will have DX10 capability, not be DX10 only. And yes, I am well aware of the DX10 client for Eve, but just thought it was simpler to put it as w/ patch. 😛 Point is, DX10 support will be available through a download. I play Eve Online right now, and the graphics are already really nice. Can't wait for the high res textures, models, stations, and DX10. 😛

Halo 2 is not taking advantage of any DX10 features. The only reason its on Vista is so Microsoft can make money and also launch Windows Live with it.

Windows Live, as in Xbox Live?

Halo 2 isn't PC game yet, just XboX.

Ah right. I assumed Halo 2 would be DX10, being Vista only. But I guess that's giving MS too much credit. Sorry. 😛

Halo 2 was pretty lame but might be decent on the PC.

Unreal Tournament 3 maybe but thats a steep upgrade for one game but Im sure plenty will follow using the game engine.

I guess I dont see any killer DX10 game maybe Microsoft can reconsider Gears of War for the PC to kick things into gear.

IIRC, both will have Dx10 support, but also a Dx9 renderer.

The concept of whether or not a game is a "true" DirectX 10 game or not is pretty irrelevent. You can't have a game that runs half in Dx9 mode and half in Dx10 mode at the same time. The only difference is that future games will benefit from developers being more experienced with the DirectX 10 featureset and designing games and engines from the ground up to take advantage of that. Current and near-term Dx10 games will basically just be reimplementing the Dx9 renderer in Dx10 and maybe throwing in a few new effects. The only nice thing about that is we might get a speedup as Dx10 is more efficient.

Gears of Wars would be great for PC. Of course if ported correctly.

I've been playing EVE since 2003 with the same graphics ^_^

I can't wait until the new client. PvP will be so much better with the preloading of content while in warp there may be no client lag at all if your PC can run it.

That sounds neat. And its good that somebody will provide an alternative to running Vista to get DX10 games. Hopefully performance won't suffer because of it. I can only suspect that it will though and won't run as well as DX10 on Vista. But still, a good alternative. I'll just cut out the middleman and run Vista.
