I've heard the struggles people have had uninstalling 9.0c to revert back to 9.0b would it be worth it in my case to upgrade?

How much of a 3dmark increase am I looking at?

This is my LAN system rig in my sig, 12,100 on 3kmark03 w/o any oc.

I would think that if DX 9.0C were out it would be big news with the SM3.0 and all for Nvidia fans.

Yeah, what are you talking about? I didn't think 9.0c was out yet......

Perhaps you're thinking of some drivers for a certain card?

He cares about his 3dmark score because it represents the overall performance and quality of his system when it's displaying graphics.

If a driver or modification makes your 3dmark score higher then more then likely it will make some of your games run faster or look nicer to play.

That's why he cares. It's called a benchmark.

so why not bench games?.... there was a test in maximum pc... the x800XT vs 6800U - the 6800 won all the 3dmark scores yet lost in all the gaming scores... whats that tell you about 3dmark? maybe its not accurate? I would much rather perfer fps in a real game than a benchmarking score... Seems more valid. Am i right?

Well, he's already got a whopping 12,100 in 3DM03 anyway, so what is he expecting? An egg in his beer?:D

For my FX5900, directx 9c beta did help smooth things out in shader heavy games such as farcry and painkiller (demo). The overall fps was still the same so you won't see any point bonus in benchies by using directx9c but you should definitely notice that gameplay is smoother..

I doubt that its any placebo effect, the 9c is really better programming..

Damn, I'm off to play some 3DMark again. I almost beat that damn turtle in the Nature test, but that stupid butterfly just air-strafes me to death every time. :(

guys cmon if you dont have anything productive to post dont post at all. Some people like 3dmark and want to see performance gains... thats there preference.

For all of you who dont know 9.0C can be obtained through XP SP2 build IIRC 2127 and later (im running 2138).

I haven't benched yet, but SP2 does ue a helluva lot more memory when idle. 108 with mine and thats with everything optimized (services disabled, all that good stuff).

Since you don't have an NV4x nor do you have Far Cry you're not going to see any difference at all. Worse still DirectX 9c is still beta so you risk screwing up your existing games if you use it.

I think since you have a 6800 it might be worth it. Although if games are running fine as is shouldn't hurt to just wait till its ready for a standard release.

Its no longer a beta.. Micro$oft released it earlier today ( a month after this post started, but whatever ) so the question can now come up again for the average Joe user :)

Not that I am about to install it of course... heh

Installed Direct X 9.0C yesterday, and haven't had any problems in Battlefield Vietnam, or Warcraft3.

The funny thing is even with My GT the turtle really does kick my ass, it dips to like 21 FPS every time on that guy. The butter fly IMO is pretty easy to take out though.

Upgraded to DX9.0C and NV 61.77 drivers.

No issues yet. Except for some reason NVIDIA and Windows media player really really hate each other. (random crashes with long movie playlists, also in the 62.xx series betas, Geforce 5600).

I wouldn't install it. I installed it last night with different drivers and my far cry game was crawling at an unbearable pace. I did a system resotre to the 9.0b and everything was quick again. I did use driver cleaner when changing drivers too!

jrphoenix: I've seen you mention this problem on a number of posts, and this issue seems to be unique to you. I am curious about a few things...

1) What version of Windows are you running?
2) If XP, did you install DX9.0c with a Service Pack or by itself?
3) If you are running one of the release candidates of XPSP2, which one - RC1 or RC2?

I installed DX9.0c via Service Pack 2 RC2 and haven't had any of the issues you mentioned. I am curious if maybe XPSP2 has something to do with it.

I actually had a another thought as I was writing the first part of this post... (sorry if I'm rambling a bit - I need a second cup of coffee)

Anyway, do you have another rig you can put your GT into to try out DX9.0c? In one of the Doom3 preview articles, John Carmack mentioned that some OC'ed cards may not function reliably with Doom3 since it uses parts of the OpenGL path not previously used before. Hence, it will be using physical parts of the GPU that have been dormant. I would assume that the same is true for DX9.0c. DX9.0c may being using transistors previously unused on your GPU which may be flawed. I would think that you could narrow it down to a hardware issue by installing the card into another box. If you have the same issues then it is your hardware, if not it is obvioulsy not a hardware issue. Since the GT's haven't been around long, I would assume that you could RMA your card if it turns out to be a hardware issue.

Good luck with this. I hope you can get your rig working properly.
