I installed MechWarrior 4, and the DX8 that came with it. After a while MW started studdering pretty badly, and now Combat Flight Sim 2 is starting to as well (never did before). I'm still using the 631 drivers. Any suggestions for upgrading DX8 and the Nvidia drivers? Should I upgrade both or try one at a time, and to which versions?

I'm trying to be conservative about installing stuff as I'm still fairly new to Windows, and I also read that DX8 can't be uninstalled.

thanks,

You are using WinME so try updating to the latest official drivers 6.50,they may help anyway you have loads of Nvidia drivers to choose from, studdering can be caused by many things so try a defrag of harddrive, plus closing software that runs in the background before playing games like anti-virus etc.

Don't use the 7.17's that were knocking about. Sure way to problem hell. Not sure what the 7.52's are like, I think they are for DX8. You can get them here

Thanks. I successively updated first to 8a, then 6.50. 6.50 might have made a small difference but it's hard to tell. The problem is still there.

A point release is supposed to be available soon, but I suspect it might be the game itself. I guess a reinstall is in order. I shouldn't have to look to beta drivers for a fix.

DirectX 8a solved my problems. I believe the 7.52 drivers overclock the crap out of you card. The 7.17 drivers are great for Giant, in fact it's the only driver I have used that runs the graphics correctly. If I play Quake or anything else, I have to run the 6xx drivers.
