I had recently puchased a new HDD, and wanted to do a clean install. Attempting to load Direct CD and EZCD Creator has been a bust. CD Copier & Direct CD install, but do not recognize that I have a PlexWriter 12/4/32, and basically do not work. I have both working fine on my old HDD.
I have a downloaded copy of Ahead InCD.
I also have a copy of WinOnCD Power edition, but so far have been unsuccessful in in finding Packet CD.
I need to back up files and I use the CD-RW (previously Direct CD 3.0)like a floppy, especially for Quicken.
Any suggestions?

BTW, when I uninstalled DIrect CD 3.0 & EZCD Creator, the following files were not removed:
popup.ocx, richtx32.ocx, & cdrte.dll, all in c:\Windows\system. Can I safely delete these files?
Thanks

I find EZCD Creator crashes with some programs... When I installed mine before, it crashes with PowerDVD so bad I could not even boot up Windows. From then on, I just use Nero instead, which in my opinion is a great program.

I would suggest you try out Nero too, you can d/l it at:

You aren't by chance running Win2K with the new Windows Media Player 7.0? There have been issues reported with the Adaptec CD burning plugin included with the Media player and Direct CD 4.0.

If so, uninstall the plugin. Uninstall and reinstall EZ CD Creator and Direct CD along with their latest patches.

I would suggest installing all the newest patches to EZCD to 4.02 and Direct CD to 3.01. There is also a support patch for newer drives like your Plextor I believe.

i have the latest firmware for the PlexWriter. Also I upgraded to Direct CD 3.01. Still doesn't recognize the PlexWriter in either the Direct CD or CD Copier programs.
These were installed with the same files on my old HDD and work fine.
I am frustrated with this one.

hah hah, Thira & BCYL, I wished I read about this thread before my O.S crashed on me compliment of Adaptec. I had the same problem. Couldn't recognize my Yamaha recorder, etc...Windows won't boot up :( It's not because of your drive, it's because of that stupid program. Delete it and use another one, Nero or CDRwin.

this might be a tad late, but oh well. I hate Adaptec.
