Direct Cable Connection using Rs-232 cable

I went to radio shack and bought a rs-232,DB25 male to DB25 male cable,
I have been trying to hook up 2 computers using direct cable connection,By using the parralell port.
I haven't had any luck, i can't get the 2 to connect, i have checked all my setting's and am really pulling my hair out.
Will the Radio shack cable work, or do i need a different kind of cable ?

YOu do need a special cable, sometimes called a laplink cable

Thanks for the info, I found some of them at Circuit city, and office depot,
I wonder what makes them different than the cable i bought at Radio Shack ?

The wire connections in one of the plugs is different.
