Dire need of help by EXPERTS

Ive got a problem installing the NIC ive got.
When my computer finds the card (it does find the appropriate certified drivers) it goes past that step and just after it has found it I get a window saying:
Could not install Ethernet-adapter (that is swedish: Ethernet-adapter but it might be called the same in english or maybe ethernet-device)
And under this code it says: Wrong data
if I check the settings for the card in the device manager (The card doesnt lie under Network cards - it lies under the tab Other devices and it is a ! mark over the name: Ethernet-adapter (ethernet-device)) I see: Error (Code 1).
Ive tried changing to 3 different PCI slots -Ive tried the included drivers - the ones that winXP finds and all other kind of drivers. (I do not at all - pretty sure of it - believe it has something to do with the drivers.) Ive looked at IRQ's, DMA's etc etc. Tried 2 cards in the same machine - still no go (one 3com and one netgear). This is ridicolous. I cant find a solution.
I have no clue what to do.
What is error code 1?
The card works in another computer so there is nothing wrong with the card.
Thanks a lot and I am in dire need of help.

------------------------------------------------------------

Mobo: Abit TH7II
Network card: Tried both Netgear FA311 and 3com TC905-TX
Tried all new drivers (both should work with WinXP). Tried old drivers too.
(dont think there is something wrong with the drivers)
Platform: WinXP Build 2600 (swedish version)
Processor: P4 "Northwood" 1,8ghz
Graph card: Leadtek Ti 4400
Soundcard: Soundblaster Audigy

Ive got latest drivers for everything. Got latest BIOS revision.

did u try installing XP with the card installed or not?

also, did u try installing the card while the video card is the only other card in the system?

i'd recommend doing a reinstall with just your video card installed. then, put in the NIC into a slot where you know it isn't sharing an IRQ with the video card. if that doesn't work, i have no clue. if it does work, then put in your sound card into a slot where it isn't sharing an IRQ with anything else. keep repeating this procedure for all your PCI cards.

hope this helps.

The card wasnt in the machine why I installed XP.
I have tried to remove the soundblaster card (the only card Ive got in a PCI slot except for the NIC card) and put the NIC card in that slot.
Still no go.

Could it have something to do with that I installed XP without having the card installed from the beginning!?

maybe your bios doen't speak swedish 😀

but seriously, wrong data means drivers given are are seen as for wrong O/S
apparently the swedish version of XP doesnt see these as appropriate, which gets into
multi-language support issues.
i would first retry the install with an English XP full install CD already in the cdrom player.

and, assuming youre reading the drivers off a floppy, I would D/L drivers from manuf site to HDD to eliminate
possibilty of floppy not reading data correctly (or virus)

always run nic install with O/S CD in so that if needed, network protocols can be loaded.

intel pro100 will go - drivers in system

I also seriously believe it has something to do with the Eng-Swe version of XP since Ive tried both a 3COM and a Netgear NIC - both which are sold in sweden and have a "Works with XP" logo on them.
I mean it should work with the swedish version of XP if they are selling it in sweden 🙂

Anyone else? Im desperate right now. Tried almost everything =(
Going to try to install 98se, but if that doesnt work I do not know what to do. Ill probably hang myself.

1) Get a new set of drivers from the manufacturers site.
2) Try using Generic 10/100 NIC drivers that MS ships (not the ones the wizard wants to use, pick them yourself from the list).
3) Remove all windows networking components; DialUp Networking, VPN, etc and retry the install process.
