DIR-655. Just Changed to WPA-2.

Last week I resetup my Dlink Dir-655 to what I thought was the highest security. After looking again I noticed it wasn't at WPA-2. After I changed it my lap top won't connect anymore. Any suggestions? Pretend I don't know anything about networking. Which I don't. Thank you.

The laptop (if it is capable to do WPA-2) has to be readjusted to the new configuration.

Otherwise (unless you are running a Bank, or an Intelligence agency) you can stay with WPA.

Ok, I installed "network Magic" from Dlink's website onto the lap top and it says I needs a "wireless key". Where would I find that? I am logged in the router successfully on my regular pc.

Edit: Actually I need my routers user name and password also. Thanks.

I am getting confused on all the passwords, keys, and encryption keys mean. I logged in the router itself using the user name and password. I believe what I need now is an encryption key. Any idea where I can find that? Thanks for bearing with me.

You're supposed to set the encryption key yourself.

You can use this site for help: https://www.grc.com/passwords.htm

Save the encryption key to a text file, and put it somewhere you'll remember and be able to access from different machines (e.g. USB drive, CD, shared folder). Copy and paste the content into the router settings, and each client setting.
