Can anyone explain these two terms?

I have the following parts on the way for a system I am building:
Duron 600mhz
Case
Floppy
CD-Rom
PCI Sound Card
AGP Voodoo3 Video Card
Heatsink/Fan for processor
Four case fans

And I figure I can pick up a NIC for $5, cruise the hot deals forum in search of an HDD, and try to find an Abit KT7 with any discount at all.

What RAM should I get? From what I gather the above terms apply to this. PC133? DIMM or SIMM? I was thinking of getting 128MB, and upgrading in the future.
Thanks! :)

You wont be able to find any SIMMS that will fit in any current motherboards. Get some good PC133

Thanks. What do you reccomend in the category of PC133 RAM at a good value for said system overclocked at 900mhz?

Thanks. So is DIMM the same as SDRam?
And what type of RAM is safe to buy? Mushkin, Crucial. Kingston? I suppose I should shy away from PNY and Viking -type stuff. Also, does the number of pins and stuff vary?
Thanks :)

there were 30 pin simms in the old 386/486 days. There were 72 pin SIMMS (fast page, parity, edo) in the 486/pentium days. DIMMS, which are 168 pins are from the late pentium (pentium pro used it too) through now. There are EDO DIMMS, SDRAM, etc.

At this point, the only types really are SDRAM DIMMS. These come in PC 66, PC 100, and PC 133 flavors. All the same type, just operate at different frequencies, and latencies.

PC 66 (generally) had a CAS latency of 2. Quality PC 100 has a CAS latency of 2. The cheaper stuff is CAS 3. The high quality PC 133 is CAS latency of 2. Cheaper stuff is CAS 3.

Many PC 66 CAS 2 could run at 100mhz CAS3. Many quality PC 100 CAS 2 can run at PC 133 CAS 3. Many quality PC 133 CAS 2 can run higher at CAS 3. This is a gross generalization, but its useful to know "generally."

Mushkin budget PC 133 (CAS 3) is relatively cheap, from a reputable manufacturer, and its good stuff. Corsair is also good, as is Micron, and memman. I'd personally stay away from PNY (bought some PC 66 CAS 2 that won't go above 66mhz no matter what).

DIMM (dual in line memory module)

get micron (thats what i have)
if on a tight budget, go for the mushkin
just dont do generic, it may cause complications

thanks for the answers!
But what about the SDRAM vs DIMM question?
Also, is Mushkin cheaper than Micron? I saw threads about "hot deals" on mushkin ram for $179. Are there further broken down levels of quality?
Thanks :)
