Dim Laptop screen?

Laptop Model- IBM R51

Used the laptop for a while, reinstalled xp, installed 2gb of ram. The laptop worked fine for several days, then one day I tried to boot it up to find it had a dim screen. I replaced the lcd inverter twice, to no avail. I hooked the laptop up to an external display and it works perfectly.

Can anyone think of another suggestion? I am really hoping I dont have to replace the screen...

Thanks!

It sounds like the backlight bulb in the screen is failing. It could just be a loose connection but if you have replaced the inverter twice I would hope that you checked the connections when you took the screen apart.

Well I didnt have to take the screen apart to replace the inverter, you can take out the bottom 3 screws and lift the bezel (thats what IBM's website said to so). Would it be a cable under the keyboard? THanks!

If the inverter doesn't fix it then it's the backlight itself. Depending on the model, you might be able to find a donor laptop and take the screen from there.

How difficult is such a repair? I took apart the lcd to find that I would not know where to start (backlight repair)
