I hate when CSR folks infer you are lying when you return damaged goods.

Sadly it's because they get lied to so often.

In that transaction I had an issue that I didn't think was my fault and that the "all sales final" clause have an exception made or at least a bit of concern to my plight.

Wait - so the whole issue started because you don't understand the definition of 'all'?. Oh wait - I forgot - you are special because you spend money at that store. Clearly you need an exception. The manager was probably rude because you were the 937th person that day who thought they were special and deserved an exception to their CLEARLY STATED ALL (That means entirely) ENCOMPASING RULE. Perhaps you even followed it up by saying how much money you spend there - because tahts something she didn't hear the other 936 times

Look I am not saying her attitude was right but I can understand it. Frankly I applaud her for adhearing to stated company policies

Oh - and given your usual posting manner here I bet there is more to the story. Perhaps you told her she was threatened or jealous of you and thats why she didn't make an exception :awe:

What part of "all sales final" was hard for you to comprehend?

while i agree. IF something is sold as NEW but is used i would be pissed off too and demand a refund.

But i look at what i buy. if its any different from the others in the pile i don't grab it.

I agree, "all sales are final" screams "buyer beware" - you ain't getting a refund under any circumstances if you buy this usually deeply discounted item.

That said, if it was sold as new and in fact was not new and damaged I would take it back. When something is damaged, like stained or missing a button for example, there is usually written on the tag, "as is" meaning they are selling it with a defect and it's your decision to buy it.

So, in the OP's case I think he had the right to return the shirt that had a hole in it. I also think if you go into that situation as a sincere, nice, easy going person who is there to just make things right I think you will get what you came for.

Some of the time, not all of the time, when some one displays "attitude" in this situation they are going to get "attitude" in return. If you get "attitude" without asking for it then it's definitely time to ask for the manager and then go even further if there is not friendly and reasonable resolution.

Weird. I've never seen a sticker tag on a dress shirt in a store. They always seem to have hang tags on them. (which can cause holes too if not put in the proper place)

The sticker had nothing to do with the shirt other than conceal the hole. It is my assumption it was a damage marker for a return that somehow got put back on the shelf.

Oic, when you said it had a UPC on it I thought it was a price tag.

BS, that anyone would conceal a hole with a sticker. A "damage marker" shouldn't conceal the damage. 😕

Talking about dropping $40-50k on a car over in Garage then saying how much money you drop at Dillard's, then complaining about a hole in a $30 shirt when the receipt said "all sales final" doesn't make sense...

It was definitely odd, I was polite about it all(until basically being called a list three to four times). I was expecting either to just exchange for the same shirt or being told politely they can't take anything back because of the posted terms.

She choose to act like queen of the kingdom (rolling her eyes as she reviewed my receipts) and being confrontational (you must have worn and damaged this shirt because WE'D never sell something like that).

Her latter remark should have been her indicator a mistake was made and I wasn't trying to scam them over a shirt.

It wasn't the hole in the shirt that was the issue, please pay attention.

I think most in the 100k+ income range would want another shirt if they found damage prior to wearing/washing it.

i can't bare to read this whole thread.... : /

so, in short, what is your course of action? did you just leave the store b/c she was a bitch? do you still have the shirt?

course of action was to let her know I would not be back and why bother to take the shirt...

There is nothing they could of done short of terminating that woman which i would think petty over this. My choice is to just share that story when possible.

It's really not a big deal, not like I was locked into Dillards anyway...the sale brought me in and had me reconsidering it. There are plenty of retail shops in S. Florida though.

I think you have some issues with comprehension. This thread was about a hole in the shirt and how much I spent there should have not gotten me the treatment I received.

The car thread is separate.

I think it would've been worth the effort to ask for the manager. Maybe not get her fired, unless she has done this to other customers too and needs to be fired, but to have her be reprimanded. (Also, you'd get a refund/exchange)

If it was worth the effort to make this thread and respond to everyone in it, then I think it was worth the effort to get this woman to get written up for improper customer service.

The hoops I have to go through with some people and STILL treat them kindly it's people like the woman you are talking about at Dillwads that piss me off royally. You shouldn't have just let it go.

I did ask for the manager. She was the person in charge. The cashier volunteers to get her thinking an exception would be made.

I even mentioned I was going to pick out a few more items that night.
