Ok, I thought I had everything set to start purchasing components for my first computer build...I was wrong.

I'm now facing the dilemma of which option offers me the best upgrade path.

Original decision:
P4T533-C with RIMM4200

Now considering waiting on one of the Dual-DDR boards.

Any info, links, etc... would be appreciated.

i dunno if fs/ft forum rules would apply here (the 4 hour bump rule)... but give it a chance dude... it was 2am (here in nj at least) when u posted... not much activity at these hours. anyway, there is always the next latest and greatest on the horizon... if u keep looking that way, u'll never buy anything.

My current 'puter was a gift from the parents via Gateway about 3.5 yrs ago. P3 500 & 384MB SDRAM, was good at the time but now....

Not much of 1 delima then cause it's time to upadate IMO so Look @ THG and you can search The Main Vein...I would not suggest RDRAM supported Intel Mobo's because of it's bleak future and expense...

DUDE! we are so in the same boat. I too just LAST WEEK upgraded from a Gateway P3 500!!!
Ok I spent weeks researchign this as well as asking around on all types of forums (including this one)
This is what i settled on and so far it has been spectacular.
Pentium 2.4B processor
Asus P4PE/L Mobo (amazing!)
512 DDR2700 from samsung
new case
The rest i scavenged from the old beast.
If your going the pentium route and wanna upgrade right now (i suggest you do, my p3 500 was way too long in the tooth) i woudl heartilly recomend this.

Outside of my monitor (Viewsonic G90f) I won't be scavenging anything my old machine. I'm giving it to my niece because it will be great for her to run children's programs on.

I'm mainly looking for upward flexibility. I would prefer to not be stuck with very limited upgrade options 3-6 months down the line.

Not quite sure what you mean but the processor on my current machine looks like a Slot 1.

he means that intel has been changing its sockets many times
while AMD has stayed on with Socket A(462)
