Dilema for my Gen ed course..

So I had to take a Gen ed course this semester. I plan to do well in it as a minimal GPA booster but there is a problem. The course is called Contact and Encounter and is regarding the European encounter and subsequent assimilation of Native Americans. The professor is native American and pretty much just spends the hour a day ranting about the Europeans. All the evaluations are take home though, so I can put up with it.

Anyway, I remember a discussion in class we had regarding what makes history "valuable" or real, and he stated that the Native storytelling stories *never* changed. Well, in the book he made us buy it specifically said the stories changed after the encounter to mesh with the European history. I stated that and he said the book was wrong, they never change ect ect. Which leads to my dilemma, a lot of the questions are like this

1. Define the meaning of history. What different kinds of history add to our understanding of the past? What is necessary to make a history credible? Relate this to written and oral sources in for history. 15 marks

Very easy obviously, but should I answer them in my own personal opinion (with supporting arguments) or answer with an answer he will like?

I am confused but how can a professor make you buy a book?

Other then the text book a class calls for you should not have to buy anything extra and if the teacher wants you to read other books for the class it should be available in the library or payed for when you paid for the class.

Also just write this down and see what happens:

History is written by the conquerors.

History is written by the winners.

It was assigned as a text book, most likely.

Fixed, if you're looking to piss them off.
