Hi,
I'm in the very early stages of research for a little project I need to do and I knew that the best place to find people who know their stuff would be here (I've asked before).
Essentially I need to be able to record video of things moving very fast and have it piped into a PC. It is then highly likely that I will need to have sprites added to that video feed and then shown to a user. All in real-time. Be aware that I know very little about this stuff and I will probably say some very dumb things.
So my questions are:
What sort of hardware will I need? Video card type? Is this sort of thing high end or pretty so-so for todays hardware?
Analogue or digital video camera equipment? Whats the difference between analogue and digital video cameras? Whats the point of digital? Oh and I just want a camera on its own, no other like a lcd screen or a tape to record onto, just a camera on its own.
The stuff that the camera will be recording will be moving fast so I need a high frame rate camera? What sort of rate?
The recording needs to be high resolution (the highest analogue I've seen is 640x480)
What sort of software will I need to modify the feed in real time and then display on a screen?
Is there a significant amount of grunt required cause of the real-time bit? (Cheaper is better but I can afford it so don't worry about recommending expensive stuff)
The camera equipment preferably needs to be light but this is not required.
Kind Regards,
Willie
