I purchased three LCD TV's last year, two with HD tuners built in and assume they are digital. Right?

Someone ask me if everything being sold now was digital. I didn't really know. Someone set me straight as to when analogs stopped being sold, if they have.

BB stopped selling analog TV's a few months back. I don't think its a requirement to stop selling them....it's just a move not to piss people off.

Your TV's with ATSC tuners in them will continue to work with an antenna after the Feb 2009 date.

Note: If you are getting cable or satellite service this has no effect on you.
 
BB stopped selling analog TV's a few months back. BB is referring to Better Businesses I would assume.

I am on Dish Network so, that is not a worry for me. I do notice that when channels I receive that are broadcasting a digital signal are better, even on my old 20" CRT I have. Almost like HD, in picture quality on it. I for one, will not be sorry to see the analog signals go.

Analog signals can still exist on cable networks after the deadline.

BB=Best Buy 😉

The whole shift to digital is an effort by the FCC to reclaim (and resell, I assume) the analog broadcast spectrum. Originally the deadline was going to be 2006 I think, where TV stations had to be off the analog signal and completely digital by then. Of course it's expensive and difficult to make such a shift in a very short time so they extended it to '09 or whatever.

If I'm remembering correctly, the government was going to reimburse everyone for digital tuners. So if you wanted to receive the new digital broadcasts on your 20 year old TV, you could buy a digital tuner and do so, and since the govt was mandating the shift they would pay part of it (tax rebate? not sure). I don't know if that's still the plan since they extended the deadline for the analog->digital shift.

Satellite service has been all digital for quite a while...possible since inception.

The switch to digital broadcasting effects only people who receive television signals with an antenna also known as over-the-air (OTA). If you have cable or satellite, you don't have to even think about it.
 
slightly off topic: where are these cheap digital converter boxes for people to use their $40 coupons?
the only readily available HD tuner that i see is a samsung for about $180 at CC & BB.

I thought the analog spectrum would be used for emergency and government agency usage?
