Everybody I know who requested a coupon got them within a few weeks and have spent them on boxes.

Cut em some slack. They probably can't get their Transcamero off the blocks and started so that the can go to the Wal-Marts where they done seen those TV perverter boxes.

Did you read the article?

The government screwed up and didn't get the coupons out on time.

This being fact, you decide to blame and insult those the government screwed?

Elitist beyond all reason.

Well, whatever happened to reading a good book? Or turning on the radio?

I think it would be a good thing for a lot of people to unplug from their tv's.

Besides, there is always Cable, and Dish or DirecTV.

I find it funny how the argument is that these poor people won't be able to watch Wheel of Torture or get their daily news. Well, what about newspapers, radio, internet?

I say let them convert over (if they didn't get off their lazy ass to convert) let em do with out, these people had what? 6 months to figure it out? Tho, I think they will push it back even tho, I haven't watched over the air TV for years and I could care less.

Hm that's interesting. I didn't think of that.
That's because you're not as far gone as the OP if the OP was actually serious.

My neighbor submitted coupons for himself and another in my name (I gave him the ok). Nothing has arrived. I don't need them (have a HD DVR box) so it's not a big deal to me but I wonder how many people who do need them didn't get them yet?

And that's what I don't understand, why would you request coupons if you don't need them? Leave the coupons for the people with a true need, I suspect there are a lot of people like you and your friend cluttering up the system.

Assume much? Where did I say my friend didn't need them?

Another poster who apparently didn't bother to read the article.

Come on, ericlp; make a little effort before posting as the Minister of Information Control.

It's the primary source of information and alerts(weather and such) for a lot of folks. the government is mandating the switch and making a large number ot sets obsilete in one fell swoop.

So television is now a right and not a privilege?

You are famous as a butt-head. We don't need more proof.

You mean it stands on its head. How do you define need. You previously argue that nobody needs TV, so are those only with low income but no need entitled to the box whereas those with money and no need shouldn't order the coupons?

Only if there's a lot of people out there ordering boxes they don't need. I suspect that's not the case but I base that on nothing other than my own procrastination. ;)

Dropping an issue into P&N is like dropping a mirror into a room full of clowns, the imbecilic remarks that accrue are a reflection of the folk making them. Given that, here is my reflection.

I heard about the coupons when this was first announced. All the information was about a deadline and nothing about limited funds. Checking the prices I noted something in the 50 dollar area so decided this 10 dollar item has low priority and given the fact that models usually improve over time and prices come down, I decided not to waste good time then and wait until it was a more relevant issue. See how intelligence, and not sloth, can put things off, you blithering assholes. Oops, sorry, just kidding about that. From snakes, I was advised years ago, to expect snake behavior, and the things some of you idiots say is totally expected behavior. But I digress.

So when the word came out it was getting time to order those coupons, I did so immediately and forthwith, while yet there was no word on the government running out of money in any of the information I heard. I also printed out a list of the best reviewed boxes so I would be ready to shop when my coupons came. But they have not arrived, it seems.

Hehe, now it seems I will have to get my help from, if, of course, I can clarify in my mind the relative standing of my need.

But if I don't get my coupons I'm going to shit and blame the government for everything, and I will plague their conscience with my totally avoidable death by surprise tornado. Those filthy bastards promised me 40 dollars of help and the dirty swine need to deliver. I don't give a crap it's for a house I only use sometimes on weekends and where I seldom, when there, watch TV anyway. It's just outrageous to be promised 40 dollars and not get it. It's not fair. So they better leave my TV as is till I get my money, damn it.

My TV already has a ATSC tuner in it and I get to experience the wonderful 3 PBS channels already :). "This Old House" never looked so good as it does in 1080i.

We are arrogant, me too, because we lack shame. We are so ashamed, mostly, that feeling it can open huge wounds we are not aware exist and without understanding that our shame is for sins we aren't guilty of, can even lead into a psychosis. We protect ourselves from feeling truths that are true in our feelings but not in reality. Sadly we were made to feel delusions.

We can't feel our shame, but unconsciously we do all the time. Sometimes, therefore, I will shame people. But know you aren't guilty of anything. You were, as you put it, 'facepalmed' long ago. I just caused you to feel what is hidden.

I know you are OK. And you are a wonderful advocate for alternative energy. I love you, hehe. I applaud your openness to feeling.

Your point?

You say that because you are a butt-head. The correct answer to a butt-head is silence, but experience definitely points to the fact that any other answer will have the same effect, long term. I, therefore, skipped the point because I knew that it too would only have prompted you to post further as a butt-head. This one, probably too.

we were told from the beginning that they may not be able to give everyone a box, so they asked people who didn't need one to not apply.

You don't have a right to TV, you had the buy the TV in the first place, sure it is no fun to spend $40 to continue to watch what you are already watching, but it was a first come first serve deal. You can still go get your own box by paying for it yourself.

Smart move on Obama's part IMO.

The gov has screwed up and can't supply the coupons on time.

Would Obam want (possibly) millions of people to loose TV shortly after he gets into office? Heck no, he'd be blamed for it.

Since the gov itself has screwed up, I see no problem in a reasonable delay.

(I heard somebody raise a good point - when the power is out (ice storm, hurricane etc), a lot of people rely on battery powered TV's to get their news (which shelters are open, where not to travel etc). With this conversion to digital those TV's won't work. AFAIK, you'd need a battery powered converter and I don't think those exist.

More poor disaster planning by the fed gov?)
