Digital SoundStorm Connection

I'd like to find out how I can link up my Epox 8rda+ onboard sound stormm to my reciever a Pioneer VSX-D412. The Reciever supports digital, so does the onboard sound. Do i need to get an SPDIF bracket in order to get it working? And how exacly am i supposed to set all this up to work digital, and what are the advantages over it, from using analog. I'm also using all 6 channels if that makes any difference.

You need to buy an add-in bracket called an SPD-650. Check out censuspc.com. You basically plug it into your SPDIF pins and then plug the speakers into the bracket and enable it via soundstorm panel (theoretically, that's so, but in practice, I never got my digital sound working).

The sound is supposed to sound better in digital than analog since it won't be going throug the realtek DAC.

So if i got that what kind of cable would I use to hook it up to my reciever and what should I plug the cable into?

You can either use the included Optical (Toslink cable) or you could get a better one. Or if your receiver supports RCA style SPDIF, you could use an RCA cable.

All of the information for the whole setup travels through the cable. The optical toslink cable and the RCA cable will carry the same information, so you only need to plug in one of the two, whichever the receiver supports.

Yeah! I got this working without busting money on a SPDIF jack thing, I just took the rca cable from my broken dreamcast cut it off at the non standard rca end that went into the dreamcast, and stripped the end, cleaned out the shielding and stuff for about an inch, then I took, a little wire/ end ment for a single pin connection inside a computer i soldered them together and wrapped electrical tape around it, and plugged it in the correct plug according to this article http://www.motherboardfaqs.com/article.php?30.255 and boom i got it working just like that!!!!!!

Ok I guess i got one more question about this, in order for it to work, I need one analog channel going to the reciever as well as the digital channel? What's with this is this normal or what? If i unplug either the digital or analog cable it stops working.

That's weird. I have the same board and I only have an optical cable plugged into my reciever and it works just fine. Have you tried disabling analog output in the nforce control panel?

Yeah i did, I don't get it though, do you think it's an issue with the sound card or with the reviever? It seems more like it's something weird going on with the reciever.
